ARUPA REPORT ABOUT ATTENDING ON THE SOLAR DRYER TRAINING AT DONET ON 24 JULY 2014
We as ARUPA, were invited to attend solar dryer training at Dodoma Environment Network (DONET). In short, DONET is a non governmental organization which deals with environmental conservation and provision of education to the society on how to conserve environment especially in Dodoma region and its districts. DONET started its operation in 1994 and registered in 1995.
Solar dryer training started on 10:00 am at DONET office. We learned on how to build a solar dryer with its uses to the community including; well storage and preservation of vegetables and fruits from the farms especially during harvesting period in which the surplus vegetables and fruits should undergo drying so that they can be used for the future time instead of leaving them spoiling.
Also, we learned on how the solar dryer facilitates the business to the Small and Medium entrepreneurs (SME). This will lead the growth of income in the society. Not only it increases the income but also it helps to keep green vegetable and fruits which may be used in the next period especially in summer season. It is profitable because it stores dried products to high quality.
After all, DONET promised to provide education of solar dryer uses to the people from town up to villages of Dodoma region. The participants of the training proposed to return feedback of the training after two weeks.
Further more, the participants proposed for the DONET to find out the market of the products produced by the small and medium entrepreneurs. Also, the participants advised DONET to find alternative way of getting raw materials like white nylon which are available in Small Industries Development Organization-SIDO-Dar es salaam, the training ended at 1:00 pm.
