UMWA started as a group after a woman from Isamilo ward in Mwanza Region being beaten up by most vulnerable children and stole cooked food from her kitchen. After a week a group of 12 community members paid a suprise visit around Mwanza city and observed that, number of orphan children is increasing rapidly and they are running into streets where they're called "STREET CHILDREN"

Apart from other causes, HIV/AIDS is the main cause for the increase of these 'Street Children'. So UMWA group saw that it is the duty of the whole society to help the foster parents who are taking care of the orphan children so that they'll be able to continue caring them and provide the basic needs.
