THE HISTORY OF HURUMA 1.0 Historical background : HURUMA was found in 1995 in Kaibanja ward, Bukoba Rural District, by that time it was known as Mugere Business farm (MBF) and it was concentrating on Agriculture projects, particularly, Horticulture, fruit cultivation, animal keeping and Nursery tree raising. With the efforts of SyIivand Mugere the initiator; It managed to establish a number of 150,000 tree seedlings which included Grevillea, Eucalyptus,Cyprus, Acacia Senegal and more others. The project embarked with supply of tree seedlings in churches, schools, Health centre and other public institutions. A start a number of 2000 seedlings; as an offer were distributed to each institution making a number 1600 tree seedlings distributed up to December 1995 Other projects which were established under the same truck were Agape English Medium Nursery school with a number of 40 children and other were poultry, piggery as well as pineapple project. In 1996/97 the initiator shifted to Kibondo District were he worked with united Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR), with this opportunity he was exposed to various skillful opportunities in community development particularly education and Health. There after in 1997 at Mabamba he was able to establish “Mabamba Education Center”(MEC) Under the counter support of Fredrick Ruhere who worked with Boni Consilii Sec. School in Mabamba The center aimed at up- grading grade B and C teachers to at least form IV of secondary Education. The program went on well until when other stakeholders such as prime education Network (PEN) joined and sustained this initiatives; more over the government launched an in-service training program to teachers which had replaced the initiatives. With sylivand Mugere acquired this experience; in year 1999- 2000 he resumed his mission to Biharamulo “ Academic promotion Center”(APC) which aimed at improving the educational and academic standard to primary and Secondary school youth including those upgrading to sit for qualifying examination and secondary education; this was done in collaboration with BOSEDA a Civil society already having experience on the particular program. 2.0 Objectives of the Organization. v Create an awareness and build capacity to CSOs and other partners on HIV/ AIDs in during other allied pandemics. v Advocacy on human rights programs in during anti- domestic violence campaigns. v Advocate and care for the most vulnerable children of the community. v Advocate for Networking and partnership among CSOs and multisectoral participating of all levels. v Conserve environment and sanitation involving a multi-sectoral approach 3.0 Already implemented activities.
The project also intensifies the ability of the community to information communication and Technology (ICT) on this aspects computer course and internet uses are provided to the community.
Already with joint initiatives programs such as women councilors training research to Multi-gender aspects of girls in schools including availability of girls accommodation in some of the Districts have been achieved. HURUMA Consultancy firm has managed to provide consultancy to over 96 Non governmental Organization, 160 CBOs and 94 individuals for business and development plans; a program that has served to over 120 million shillings among CSOs being donor support Of course that is a giant achievement to poverty reduction. Utilizing its consulting firm it has conducted evaluation exercise with TEKLA to analyze the status of service delivery to the people with disability in Kagera Region; a work whose findings have resolved some gapes on people with disability implementation policy. 4.0 Source of funds Since the organization is still young it has managed to achieve very few donor among whom is Tanzania Private sector foundation, Vraag en bod foundation and its own sources from MBF& DEVELOPMENT CONSULTANCY. It is steadily working still with limited partners which includes:- v Tanzania private sector Foundation (TPSF). v Foundation for civil society v Human Rights and legal center (HRLC) v HAKI Elimu and Research on Poverty Alleviation (REPOA). The organization is a member of different forums which includes. v Tanzania Natural Resource Form. v Tanzania Education Network. v Policy forum. v Rural finance center.
