Since it is evident that charity begins at home, or in kiswahili we say 'Samaki mkunje bado mbichi,' initiatives have to start during the early stages of studentship, other wise imposing a totaly foreign language to grown up students seems like a big burden to them, hence the negativity. In my experience students very much wanted to learn English, but a main challenge was the language change from Kiswahili to English between Primary and Secondary school. This was very difficult and intimidating for students.
