Initiative to Reduce Maternal Mortality and Morbidity in Tanzania through the Correct Use of Misoprostol Context
The Misoprostol Initiative’s goal is to improve women’s health by enhancing the capacity of leaders from diverse community-based organizations inTanzania to provide the most up-to-date information about the correct uses of Misoprostol, and support them in developing concrete strategies and proposals to empower women to access Misoprostol in a safe and effective manner
Project Title
Improvement of women’s health by enhancing and giving the most up-to-date information about the correct and safe use of Misoprostol and access to the misoprostol in kigoma Region Brief Project Description According to the research done by Nyakitonto Youth For Development Tanzania, Ifakara Health Institute and Women Promotion Centre; we have come to realize that most of rural women and infants in Kigoma Region are dying much especially during delivery due to excessive bleeding. These deaths are normally caused by poor health services in rural areas and poor transport facilities which do not favour expectant mothers. Nyakitonto Youth For Development Tanzania realized that in Kigoma region especially in Kibondo, Kasulu and Kigoma rural, women are less informed of the availability and correct use of Misoprostol. We discovered that expectant mothers are normally using traditional herbs to prevent excessive bleeding during derivery and to make abortions. Our project aims to improve women health and prevent post-partum haemorrhage by enabling rural women to gain access and correct use of misoprostol. In doing so, we shall have improved women health; reduced marternal mortality and morbidity through the correct use of Misoprostol.
Broad Goal of your project: What do you want to achieve over the long term?
Our broad goal is to provide right information to rural women, traditional birth attendants, pharmacists, nurses and girls in rural areas about the access and correct use of Misoprostol so as to reduce maternal mortality and morbidity, child mortality rate hence improvement of women health.

¨ NYDT-staffs for arrangements and preparations of the workshop of misoprostol, Seminar to them on correct use of misoprostol and practice ¨ Preparing and distributing letters and announcements to the identified targeted audiences so that they attend the workshop as arranged. ¨ meeting of NYDT-staffs and arrangements NYDT-staffs who will hold the workshop Major Strategies during workshops.
Outputs: What will you produce to reach your objective ¨ More than six hundred (615) audiences in Kigoma region will be informed and trained on the correct use of misoprostol by the end of November 2014. ¨ Materials such as:- 100 bronchures ,100 cards of Swahili Misoprostol information and 500 stickers will be distributed and used by the targeted audiences in Kibondo, Kasulu and Kigoma rural during Misoprostol Initiative Programme between June and November 2013. ¨ Nine (9) steering community committees will be formulated and will be acting as misoprostol community informers (mci)of correct use and access of Misoprostol in Kigoma region between June and November,2014. ¨ Misoprostol samples worthing 3,000,000/= tzs will be purchased and used as distributed during the program between December 2012 and November 2014. ¨ Eighteen (18) workshops in nine centres will be run and operated in Kasulu, Kibondo and Kigoma rural between June 2013 and November 2014. ¨ Training materials and health equipments (stationaries) worthing T. SHS 2,024,000/= will be purchased and used during Misoprostol Initiative Programme in Kigoma Region between January,2013 and November 2014. ¨ Six (06) NYDT staffs will have been involved and participated fully in facilitating the Misoprostol Initiative Programme in Kasulu ( two staffs), Kibondo (two staffs) and Kigoma rural (two staffs) by the end of december 2012. ¨ One hundred and fifty (150) questionnaires will be produced and used during monitoring and evaluation of the Misoprostol Initiative Programme by the end of November 2014.

2.MOBILE LIBRARY FOR COMMUNITY SCHOOLS AND COLLEGES IN KIGOMA REGION,TANZANIA.
i.GOAL: The goal is that pupils,students and the community will use the mobile library to access knowledge, information and technology in their respective schools, colleges and their residences through STM (Scientific/Social sciences, Technical and Medical information available in the library)
ii.OBJECTIVES:By the end of the project:-
a.10000 pupils in community Secondary schools will access information of STM in the MOBILE LIBRARY for advancing their knowledge, technology and information services. b.3000 students in colleges will access information of STM in the MOBILE LIBRARY for advancing their knowledge, technology and information services. c.2000 teachers will be participating in describing the programme, its importance and inspiring students,pupils to use the MOBILE LIBRARY d.100 Clinicians, 100 Policy makers, 50 researchers and the wider public will advance their knowledge, technology and informational services from the available MOBILE LIBRARY e.20 Library staffs and 15 NYDT organization staffs will demonstrate ability to run the library services, technical issues, rules and regulation and marketing the MOBILE LIBRARY IN KIGOMA.
iii.KEY ACTIVITIES a.Conducting 10 days' to 15 organization staffs and 20 Librarians training them on how they can run, manage, preserve and develop the MOBILE LIBRARY for community schools and colleges in Kigoma Tanzania for the sustainability of the programme. Under this activity the project manager will hire two competent facilitators who will facilitate during the workshop b.The trained staffs and Librarians will train the targeted audiences in their respective school,colleges and their respective places on how to preserve,use and support the project for its sustainability. c.Ordering,making fall up and buying the van and other library infrastructures suitable for MOBILE LIBRARY. d.Buying library materials such as 20 desktop computers, 200 science books, 200 social science books, 20 dictionaries, 30 desk chairs and 2 automatic power generators. e.Hiring technicians,Partners and Volunteers who will provide library technical assistance in running the project. f. Since independence of Tanzania 1961, Kigoma region has no access to library services.Therefore 20000 who are pupils,students(youths),Clinicians,Policy makers,Teachers and researchers have no access to library services which hinder them from getting valid knowledge,information,technology and other life skills. This has led to production of incompetent experts and service providers.These remain unemployed due to their being incompetent thus forcing them to join TERRORIST GROUPS like AL QAEDE,BOKO HARAMS and THE SHABABS so as to earn their living.
Therefore if any donnor support this project will advance knowledge in science,social science,technology and medicine where people will get employment or become privately employed.The project will also act as the potential library services to pupils/students,clinicians and researchers in Kigoma region- Tanzania.
Also the community will be more informed and Trained,hence cause an increase of man power,human resources,and technicians,good policy makers as a result to development of poor societies in Kigoma and Tanzania at large.
