EXACTIVE SUMMARY
Learn to Serve Community of Tanzania(LESCOTA) is seeking a grant to build LESCOTA Library, located in Matekela village, Mbinga district, Ruvuma region, Tanzania; which proposes to encourage adult to read for pressure and enlightens by offering agriculture books written in Kiswahili, also it proposes to encourage and boost National examination results to Primary, secondary and university students by offering books related to Tanzania syllabus, and forming reading club with the objective of helping all of our at risk students increase their reading skills and to read at grade level using the textbooks and materials that will be available in the library. The objective is that by the end of the every year the students will have at least doubled their reading speed and will have improved their reading skills by one to two grade levels; and students who graduates at Kikodi, Mikalanga, Hagati, Malindindo and Nyoni secondary school has to improve their division in their form four exams by ¾ , and making sure that the primary school students from Matekela,Mimbua and kitesa gets enough knowledge before entering to form one through reading the books that will be offered.
STATEMNT OF NEED
LESCOTA has identified that 1,200 students from Matekela, Mimbua and Kitesa primary school and 80 day students of Hagati, Mikalanga, Kikodi, Malindindo and Nyoni secondary school who are coming near by the library will get the access of books that will be available to LESCOTA library, Also there are 193 villagers who will always read instead of using much time to drink alcohol which on the other hand cause Poverty to the community of Matekela village and a nation as whole. On the other hand there are 14 university students who expect to get the access of books from LESCOTA library.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
LESCOTA library proposes to encourage and boost National examination results to Primary, secondary and university students. This will be achieved by offering books related to Tanzania syllabus, and forming reading club which will help all of our at risk students increase their reading skills and to read at grade level using the textbooks and materials that will be available in the library.
LESCOTA library proposes Students who graduates at Kikodi, Mikalanga, Hagati, Malindindo and Nyoni secondary school has to improve their division in their form four exams by ¾, and making sure that the primary school students from Matekela, Mimbua and kitesa gets enough knowledge before entering to form one; This will be achieved by reading the textbooks based on the Tanzania syllabus, and the exam past papers that will be available in the library. To archive this all there will be a librarian who will keep records of book borrowers and make follow up of the book that has been rented to people.
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
The goal of the LESCOTA library Project is to enable at risk students and students with learning and reading disabilities to improve their reading skills to the point where they can succeed in school and develop the reading skills that will prepare them for high school and post secondary education.
Studies have shown that poor readers, who are reading at a grade level or more behind, are more likely to be disruptive in the classroom, truant from school, and at risk of dropping out of high school.
The main objectives include:
- Providing a measurable increase in reading speed, comprehension, and reading attention span. The objective is that the students will double their reading speed
- Boosting primary, secondary, and university students to pass their National examination.
- Helping the villagers to use lots of time to read materials regarding agriculture so that they could fight poverty.
- Easy access of books, which will reduce the time to o travel to far distance finding for the access of (Maguu library which is located about 10 km)
- To serve many primary school(Matekela,Mimbua, and Kitesa) since it the camp center
