- To foster environmental stewardship in the four districts of Pemba, Zanzibar by establishing community forests, promoting sustainable forestry techniques and initiating environmental education.
CFP OBJECTIVES
Community Forests Pemba's objectives are: To connect communities to the natural environment in a relationship that improves natural resources while providing fruits, medicines and timbers to those that depend on natural resources for their livelihood.
Community Forests Pemba Project objectives are: To make conservation a consequence of production - Improving the health and integrity of Pemba's natural ecosystems while providing livelihoods through the sustainable harvest of fruits, medicines and timbers.
To improve Pemba self-reliance by working with the government to establish community forests through the transfer of land titles.
To improve food security and self-sufficiency through education and innovation.
Community Forests Pemba Long term strategic objectives include: -
- Support the organization's community-led tree planting initiative, whereby 14 communities (shehias) have worked to plant over 300,000 trees across the island.
- Develop an Agroforestry approach to food production whereby tree-systems work within the Pemban Landscape to improve and diversity forest ecosystems while providing honey through beekeeping, medicines, fruit and cash-crops through cultivation.
- Build a Rural-Training Centre whereby out of school youth, and rural agriculturalists can practice and develop sustainably forestry and agriculture, improving production methods through controlled innovation and education.
