Volunteer Opportunities

MDC is conducting different volunteering programme so as to bring about the social changes and development for the people of Zanzibar. We are looking for enthusiastic, creative and dynamic volunteer of the following programmes:-

Teachers and teacher’s trainer: Everyone have interesting to volunteer of children to teaching and trainers for teacher please welcome.

 

Teaching different languages:
Volunteers are constantly needed to help with the free teaching languages classes for community development. This will help many people to get employment in tourist hotels and reduce poverty for many Zanzibar’s. Many students are failed because of lack of enough skills of using foreign languages. MDC require teachers in a different language such as English, Spain, Italian, French, Arabic, German, Dutch and other related foreign languages in order to fulfil its objectives.

Teaching computer skills:
Very few people have opportunity to learn on how to use compute. This is because of their low level of income that could not be able to sustain for their whole life. MDC established this programme in order to help people in attaining self employment. The computer skills includes (how to operate a computer, use word processing and spreadsheets, use e-mail, Internet searches, and other related computer skills).

 

 Furaha nursery and primary school:

Furaha is Swahili word, English called “HEPPY”, Is English medium school that offer nursery and primary in the Bububu Kidichi- Zanzibar. At Furaha you can teach many different subjects to the children’s age 3-14 years old. These subjects include English speaking and writing, children’s songs, sports, drawing life style and other activities for nursery and for primary students include English, Mathematics, Science, Geography, History, Kiswahili and life skills

Colleges connection:
MDC is currently has a close relationship with the Zanzibar Pre- primary teacher college (ZPTC). Through this relationship our volunteers will have opportunity to visit the compounding of ZPTC and have opportunity to share different ideas relating to the field of education. This will be facilitated in collaboration between MDC and ZPTC

Teaching science subject:
Zanzibar is one among the third world country which have less scientific and technological advancement. Through this problem MDC through special application has connection with the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training on encourage their student on science subjects. The Volunteers in this field will be connected to Governmental Schools for teaching science subjects such as physics, chemistry, biology, math and geography.

  • Vulnerable children;
  • Working with disable people
  •  Organization management
  • Proposal/project writer up
  • Youth leadership
  •  Entrepreneurship and business plan for local community (youth project).
  • Leadership Training for Organization leaders, youth and women, for in depend day, week, month or year.

 

DURATION AND TIMING OF PROJECTS.
Volunteer teaching placements are generally from 1 to 3 months. Longer placements can be individually arranged. Though volunteer opportunities are generally available all year round, school schedules can affect the availability of English teaching placements during certain months. The duration of technical assistance and other special projects are dependent on the nature of the project and volunteer and staff availability.

PROJECT SUPERVISION AND COMMUNITY LIAISON.
You will have a MDC staff person who will be your liaison, interpreter as needed, and provide you with all the assistance possible to make your volunteer work productive. For English classes, you will be working in a small class setting, provide conversation practice and helping with written English and, if your skills and comfort level permit, teaching basic grammar classes.

While patience and an ability to improvise and make the best use of limited or sometimes non-existent materials is an asset, we try our best to make sure that your work is facilitated. We have several teaching guides available for the computer training and ESL classes which you can use for developing your lesson plans.

VOLUNTEER QUALIFICATIONS.
A willingness to help, patience, an adventurous spirit and a good attitude are your most important qualifications! Volunteers should be over 18 and in reasonably good physical health. The ability to walk for several kilometres is often necessary.
