ORSHI runs a flexible volunteer/intern program with assignments built around the specific interests of the prospective volunteer.  Placements available include:

• Social Services (Orphans and Vulnerable Children support: the organization provides support to the children in the areas of education, health care, and nutritional support). This project would be ideal for those interested in social work or gender studies. 

• Environmental conservation and protection (Tree nursery raising and distribution to the communities).

• Sustainable agriculture/food security.

• Water supply, sanitation & Hygiene promotion (Providing access to safe drinking water, provision of sanitation and hygiene education, promotion of low-cost water treatment technology, water resource management, and Menstrual Hygiene Management)

• Health care (HIV/AIDS awareness and support, Malaria prevention and control).

• Education (primary and secondary education support, vocational training, and job creation programs to most vulnerable children)

• Women and children's Rights (Women’s social-economic empowerment programs, Stop Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C) Campaign, and provision of Legal literacy & Aid).

PROGRAM LENGTHS

The Organization for Rural Self-Help Initiatives (ORSHI) volunteer programs are hands-on learning experiences that vary in length. We encourage volunteers to stay for at least three weeks, but volunteers are welcome to sign up for any length of time. Long-term stays of over six months are welcome and negotiable.

 PROGRAM FEES

No program fees are charged, however, we encourage you to be creative and innovative for the project to be successful.

Volunteers are responsible for all costs associated with volunteering, including obtaining a return ticket, health insurance, the appropriate visa before their departure to Tanzania, accommodation for the duration of their stay, transport, meals, and clothing.

It is also recommended that volunteers bring an unlocked mobile phone for a Tanzanian sim card and a laptop for use in the office.

We also remind you to raise funds through your community, friends, family, place of work, or local religious establishments to cover your own expenses during your stay.

HOW TO VOLUNTEER

ORSHI has the ability to create a customized volunteer program that matches your interests, skills, and time. The nature of your work would depend on your background and length of stay.

 To apply, please email your CV and a cover letter outlining your motivations and objectives for volunteering with ORSHI, your age and Interests, a description of the types of projects that interest you, and the time estimates that you would be available. If your application is successful and you choose to accept the opportunity, on your arrival, you will receive an orientation and be provided with our terms of reference.
