Project Goal & Objectives  

Main objective. Improve the quality of life for vulnerable collectives, women and children, in Tanzania Mainland.

Specific objectives.

1. Reduce the number of street kids in Tanzania mainland by providing secure shelter.

2. Providing community level support for OVC to ensure protection and well being in the home 3. Assist women and children achieve a better future with educational, Microfinance and vocational support.

4. Create a farming system which will help supply nutritional resources for the orphanage in order to increase the self sustainability of the project itself.

5. Implement an internal organizational system which will start new relationships with the professional Moshi community in order to reduce the local unemployment. Improving health care and the existing self sufficient nutritional program.

SWIWSCO provides three meals each day for the children living at the home as well as staff. SWIWSCO is dedicated to providing nourishing meals to help the children be active and grow into healthy young adults. SWIWSCO is working hard for a sustainable future through different projects such as a vegetable garden and farming goats, pigs and chickens. SWIWSCO staff provides full-time care for 29 orphans who reside at our residential home, amongst our children health and medical issues often arise.

SWIWSCO ensure all children have access to health care and medical assistance when required. Weekly food costs and living expenses such as food, health care, water and electricity are significantly increasing. We are seeking to partner with local businesses that are able to provide stable financial support for our children. Building new relationships between SWIWSCO and the surrounding community.

Over the past 5 years SWIWSCO has developed great friendships with many international volunteers. Some volunteers have returned and many continue to stay involved, all have expressed great appreciation in being able to see the children grow healthy and doing well. SWIWSCO continue to maintain strong relationships with our volunteers and seek to welcome new skilled volunteers to contribute to our goals.

SWIWSCO has been working the last years with Art in Tanzania an international NGO based in Tanzania based on educational and cultural development, which provide us with human and economical resources. SWIWSCO is dedicated to developing stronger relationships within the local community and obtaining ongoing support from local businesses.

The organization is currently seeking an additional Mama caregiver to help provide care, cooking and washing for the orphans who live at SWIWSCO. With additional resources SWIWSCO is hoping to provide more holistic services. Over the coming years SWIWSCO and volunteers hope to provide more employment and training opportunities for local people, further contributing to the local economy. Supporting local women and children through education and vocational training. Currently 5 out of 54 children supported through SWIWSCO receive sponsorship covering cost of education. Volunteers recently provided valuable time and financial support to modify SWIWSCO´s website. This has enabled greater opportunity for the global community to provide sponsorship for children.

In 2012-2015 SWIWSCO aims to have sponsorship covering costs of education and/ or clothing and food for all children and youth who access SWIWSCO services. SWIWSCO is seeking donors support permitting SWIWSCO to further develop of our women’s program. Our aim is to attract skilled volunteers who will assist us develop programs and provide training for local staff to deliver family life skills training, health and wellbeing information and vocational training for disadvantaged mothers and young women. SWIWSCO believe providing awareness and support for women will assist women secure their livelihood and is a vital in reducing the number of orphans and vulnerable children living on the streets or in extreme poverty. Providing safe secure accommodation.

SWIWSCO provides a safe secure home for orphans and vulnerable children. At present SWIWSCO rents a 3 bedroom house which houses 29 children and 2 mamas and is guarded by security at night. The complex includes a small shed in the backyard where children receive afternoon English lessons from English speaking volunteers. By 2015 SWIWSCO aim to be able to purchase property within Moshi which will allow SWIWSCO to provide permanent accommodation and services. This will ensure a secure home and allow SWISWSCO to expand and adapt the environment to suit the changing needs of those we serve.  Outputs Developed the SWIWSCO website and continued to update the public information and database of the organization. Improved safe secure accommodation to the orphan and vulnerable children currently from Moshi, Manyara and Arusha Outcomes Provided education and vocational training opportunities to disadvantage women and children Enhanced the nutritional and health conditions of those living the orphanage. Started a relation between the professional community of Moshi and SWIWSCO.

Impact Increased the quality of life of the vulnerable children and women in Moshi.  

POLICY DEVELOPMENT

Children’s safety is a main priority for SWIWSCO, all potential employees are required to complete a criminal record check and have valid references. Volunteers are also required to present a criminal record check from their country of origin as well as background information and references. SWIWSCO aim to ensure all staff and volunteers are professional caring people who are able to provide quality support and assistance for women and children who access SWIWSCO. SWIWSCO provide outreach support and cover educational expenses for 25 children through our at home project. SWIWSCO provide monthly visits to each child and their guardian/s. By 2012 SWIWSCO aim to secure funding which will support the employment of a social support worker. This will provide much needed professional support for the children living at SWIWSCO. In addition this will also provide SWIWSCO with the capacity to provide consistent outreach services for families who access SWIWSCO’s home program and to adolescents who leave SWIWSCO residential home. Outreach support services are able to assist adolescents´ through their transition to independent living and pursuit of vocational goals such as employment and / or further education
