How does our pricing work

Our tips use tired pricing based on logistics.getting people into remote areas where the best game viewing exist is more costly when there is only two people in the land rover (rather than two or five) economies of scale result in lower pricing for four or five people traveling together as apposed to pricing for  a couple traveling alone .rthe logistics of moving gear around for a working safari with numerous bush camps is more complicated and costly than a trip that involves simply staying at lodge.our poreicing structure is tiered so0 you pay for the cost of your safari and don’t subsidized other group.

-the number of people traveling in the group

-whether your in country transportation ius by bush plane or land lover

-whether you choose to stay in lodges or smaller tented camp

-whether you want ton participate in walking safaris that involves remote bush camps

 We can work with you to bring your safari within your budget r

ange.most our trips are suggested itineraries, but you can vary them as you desire. let us  know what your budget is and we will do our best to design a trip that give you experience you want within the budget.

How far in advance do in need to book?

-there is no cutoff.however flight into Kenya and Tanzania are limited and we find there can be problem getting seat on british Airway or KLM  if you try to schedule less than two months ahead of time.peak seasons also book up as nine month in advance .mid to late december is busy time in both Kenya and Tanzania.outside of peak season you should have no trouble booking if your schedule safari at least six to eight month in advance.

 

When is the best time of year to visit tanznia?

November ,April,and may this is the rainy season in east Africa and it become pretty hard to get around in the remote areas as guest want to explore.the mass migration moves from Kenya into  the Serengeti  in tanznia in December,January,February.march and may can be a spectular time to travel in Tanzania.climate  changes are triggering some changes in the timing of the migration,so check with us if you have specific time frames in mind for your travel and we can help you plan where to be so you get the best possible game viewing experiences.

       What kind of weather can I expect on safari?

Most of east Africa is savannah comparable to the high plateu,semi-desert areas of Colorado or new mexico.altitude ranges from 3000 to 7000 feat (obviously Kilimanjaro climbers will experiencemuch high alititude)tempoerature during the day range from 75 to 90 degree Fahrenheit.nights are cool with temperature dipping as lo as  40 degree Fahrenheit in some area (ngorongoro,craters,for example) even though you will be tarvelling near the equator,please take our packing recommendation seriously anmd take along all a light jacket or sweatshirt,sweater,and fleece pullover,additionally bring something warm to sleep in at night.humidity is low.if you don’t travel near the rainy season,it usually dfoers not rain.

we recommended that you bbring casual clothes(please bring khaki clothing,sunglasses,sunscreen,hat and insect repellent if you go on safari).in the evenings it can get rather chilly (especially in the desert areas and in athe month of may –august)sdo bring a sweater and aweindbreaker.ceratain 5-star hotel require a smart dress code for dinner.

Tanzania uses 240 volts,but you will need adapter .most hotel have adapters available .on our safari car you can recharge your phone and camera with the cigarette lighter (prioducing 220 volt).please let us know in advance if you would need this.on camping safaris there is no other way to charge rather than by using electricity.

Food is excelleted and you will find a good miox of African,European,and international cusine,fresh vegetables,sea food,and meats make it an exceptional culinary experience to travel here.south African wines sold every where and are excellent drinkable in most area,only bottle water should be used.

WHAT KIND OF MEDICAL CARE DO I NEED BEFORE I GO TO TANZANIA?Before you leave for an international destination you should consult your physician .you will also need to decide on malaria prevention medication.it is advised to take a malaria prophylaxis.vaccination for ye;low fever is no longer obligatyory other vaccination for hepatitis,tetanus etc,are reccomended

VISA

Vistors from most countries require avisa to enter in Tanzania.all vista can purchase avisa at the point of entry .you need a valid passport (active for at six month) and to pay USAD $50.00 cash.it approximately a 20 minutes procedure.

                    If you intend to fly to Nairobi and  then travel on to Tanzania,remember you may also require multilple entry visa to Kenya-even if it is only for few hours the visa for Kenya and Tanzania is USD $50.00per person for erach country.                                                         Photograpohy

Some of the happiest travelers we have met are those who don’t take a camera with them and just enjoy what they see,but most people want to record of some of the fanrastic sight along the way.you may get fairlyclose to a lot of wild life,but a good 35mm camera with a 75-300 zoom lens will certainly help you to take some great shots.its always best to buy your film before you travel,.because film here is expensive and not as fresh 100-200ASA is a good speed for general photograph here.though it can get bright,you may want to get some action shots and high speed film will be helpful.some people also like to use 400ASA for fast moving animals and eveining shots .a beanbag is much better than a tripod for photo from the car.(the safari vehicle should have apop-up or removable roof to make photograph easier) a cable release is usefull to get shots without camera equipment.most people find they take 2 to 3 rolls of film per day while on safari.

 Ithe f you bring a video camera don’t forget the tapes(they are very expensive here)and the recharging accessories.you can generally recharge the camera at lodges or from the vehicle.
How do I find the Olokii project from Kilimanjaro international airport in Tanzania?
Yes all participants will be meet arrival at Kilimanjaro airport as transportation costs will be carried and covered on by a volunteer or by savetz  according to final contract agreement.

Loading and board for volunteers can be arranged and book under savetz project's expenses - for first 1 - 2 days after volunteers arrival then next day the volunteer will be moved to home stay families ready to live and work.

Will I visit Tanzania National Parks?
Yes after a first week of volunteering here in Tanzania, savetz under its' cultural safaris programmers can organize your safaris to your choice national park, please request more info on this if your intending to do the safaris with us.

Volunteers will visit their selected national park as this safari will be powered by savetz project under the support of the selected Tour company based in Tanzania which will have a special safaris contract agreement with as all volunteers participants who wish to visit any of the Tanzania national park will contribute for safari cost as shown on our safaris program for those who will be in need of other safari options please contact our program director for other optional safaris.             

Is there any program report or comment to be given by a volunteer at the end of program time?
Yes all volunteers/ each volunteer will provide to savetz special written papers report on the program carried on as it will include program assessments, nature, program barriers, suggestions and proposals.                                                                                                           Where will I stay? Or live?
We have three main options for your Accommodations at savetz in Arusha.
- Our Local Host families
- Our Hostel at jericho orphanage home
- Our volunteer House

Yes our volunteers will be taken to different home stays families or to their hostel place where their room and their full board will be as all volunteers who opted to volunteer with us at savetz will be living with our local host families and all volunteers will expect simple nutritious meals in Tanzania the common staples are ugali (thick cornmeal), rice, potatoes, and noodles. Beans, eggplant, and meat may be served for dinner, for breakfast, tea is served every morning, along with eggs, toast, porridge, or fruit. During mealtimes a volunteer will get to know her / his family members.

Each family is different - some have small number of children and others have more teenagers' children, most houses in rural areas have pit latrines while in town area most houses have flush toilets. In some houses, there will be a 'house girl or boy' - usually a teenager who lives with the family and takes care of household chores and cooking in exchange for food and shelter. Most rural houses are not in a format of Self container house as in rural areas most houses in some places have no electricity or water near by; therefore it may be common to eat or read by candlelight.

You will have your own private room, Breakfast and dinner will be eaten with your family. This is one of the best ways to get to know them. Some families speak English, but there will definitely be plenty of opportunities to practice your Swahili. Really this will help building a cultural bridge between African youth and other world Youth Continents cultural Bridge.

Home stays will be your New home in Arusha -Tanzania for the wholly time of your program as volunteers will meet up their new Tanzanian Mothers, Fathers, Sisters and brothers during their Program Duration.

Money matters

The unit of local currency is the Tanzania shiuling (TZS). Tanaznia safari

Fundraising

Volunteer Africa is a registered British charity. Our British charity registration number is 1097963.

As a member of the Volunteer Africa Volunteer Programme you are required to raise a substantial amount before you leave for the overseas experience. The 'experience' has already begun as you embark on your pre-departure preparations.

Fundraising will be a major part of your life over the next few months. Fundraising is a valuable skill and can be great fun, but also involves hard work, planning and commitment. Rise to the challenge; don't be put off.

Once interviewed and accepted on to the volunteer programme, all volunteers have access to our Fundraising Manual. This manual draws on experience and comments collected from hundreds of volunteers who have finished their fundraising. It contains resources designed to support you in your fundraising efforts.

The manual itself does not guarantee success. This will only come through your own hard work and imagination. But the manual should make it easier for you to get started and to maintain your momentum. Keep referring to it as your plan progresses, and always feel free to contact Volunteer Africa if you need further advice.

Before you begin fundraising think of the answers to the question, 'Why is anybody going to give me money?'. Some people will give you money for the cause and the type of thing you are doing, but many will be giving money because it is you. Remember this and constantly demonstrate your commitment and enthusiasm. These are the factors that will ultimately persuade people that you and Volunteer Africa are worth supporting.

Top Tips for Fundraising

• Keep the FUN in FUNdraising. Be confident that what you are offering is worth supporting. Often people are happy to give money to something they agree with.
• Your fundraising should approach different sources as described in the manual. Don't spend too long or invest too much hope on any single area of fundraising, unless you are absolutely certain it will bring returns.
• You will need to work hard, plan ahead and involve your friends and contacts with what you are trying to do. Take into account the payment deadlines and the need to put a lot of work in at the beginning and then maintain the effort until leaving for Tanzania
• Concentrate your efforts on a local or regional basis and talk to people about what you are doing; the contacts will slowly develop.
• Don't waste too much time writing to big companies and trusts as the response rate is very small (unless you have personal contacts or connections).
• Investigate possible grants from local councils, local trusts, local Rotary Clubs, your old school or college etc. Start thinking about organising parties, a sponsored event or garage/car boot sales. Maybe a friend or relative will undertake a sponsored event for you.
• Be aware of overhead costs incurred in running events or making something.
• Involve as wide a range of people as possible (individuals and organisations) and remember that if they think they are getting something out of it as well, whether it is a service, a meal or just good fun, you are likely to get more support.
• Always tell people you are a volunteer and that you are fundraising. You may be surprised that many people will give discounts or waive fees when they hear what you are doing.
• When selling yourself and Volunteer Africa please take care over how you talk about Volunteer Africa. The main point is that we work very closely with Tanzanian NGOs and local communities on long-term projects. Point out the differences that exist between other organisations and us.
• Be selective about what you send and to whom. They will appreciate it and there will be far less waste.
• If you can exceed your target all extra money raised goes directly to the host NGOs in Tanzania.
• Keep your own records of who has supported you; so you can write to them from Tanzania and show them it was money well spent.
• Keep in touch with Volunteer Africa and let us know how you are getting on.

Fundraising Success Stories

'Fundraising is going great, my whole family is getting really involved and are helping so much. We have raised almost $2,000. We have been putting on bookstalls at the local markets, selling preloved books which people in my neighbourhood have donated. It is working fantasticially :) We are also in the process of organising a raffle in the local tavern to raffle off seafood trays... The markets have been really successful though, we painted a huge sign that has a bit of info about Volunteer Africa which we put up at the bookstall, and a lot of people are really interested and come to chat, and once I talk to people for a while about what I'm doing, a lot of the time they are happy to donate money without even buying books. fundraising is proving to be a great experience in itself, everyone is so supportive'. 'When I told my workplace that I was leaving to carry out volunteer work in Tanzania, they were really supportive and excited for me. However, I didn't realise just how practically supportive they would turn out to be! We were all sat in the staff meeting one day, and my manager informed me that the whole staff team had decided to do a sponsored walk on my behalf. I was gobsmacked, and instantly relieved, as I knew it would be a challenge to raise the fee without help. A few weeks later, we set out on an 8 mile walk near Mam Torr in the Peak District. We estimated it would take about 4 hours, but adverse weather conditions and unsteady knees meant that the whole walk took us over 6 hours. For the weeks after the walk one of our team volunteered for the arduous task of collecting the money. On my last day, I was given ?603! I couldn't thank them enough. They even gave me a big bag of leaving presents including a tick remover (nice), an outdoor shirt and water purification tablets. 'Starting out with this project I knew that I was going to need to raise a lot of money in order to make this trip a feasable one for me. I am between colleges, having left one during the winter and attending another for the fall, and so whatever money I am able to earn while working during the off period was going to have to go towards school. Having attempted many fundraisers before for different projects and organizations, I knew one thing very well. Unless you have very great philanthropic connections, the people who know you the best will normally donate the most. For this reason I chose to focus all of my fundraising efforts towards my family and my church. I often times perform musically in church, given my history as a performer, so it seemed obvious to stick with what I know and what other people know of me. I decided to hold a benefit concert, and with the allowance of the church deacons I was able to choose a date and begin announcing my concert which was to be held at the church, making it free of cost for me. Within the first week of my announcement of the trip and of the cause, I was able to raise approximately $1,500 dollars. Throughout the next few weeks I continued making annoucements, and many generous people continued making donations. I've found that another crucial aspect to fundraising is "keeping the pressure on" so to speak; in other words never let your zeal and energy for the cause die down. The date finally came for the concert, and having created a playlist to fit my audience, I played a solo accoustic set, and at the end had a couple other musicians from the church join me on a couple songs. During the concert I raised over $1,700. I am very happy to say that my fundraising effort, though at first seemingly farfetched, was a total and overwhelming success. He used to work as an IT Manager and a teacher of rural micro enterpreneurship before joining his NJIRO  Accountant studies; patrick is still a college student in Pursuing his accountant and computer science.  Bryson is the daily chief overseeing of the daily TVI HOUSE.
