The STePT foundation (Stop Teenage Pregnancies in Tanzania) is non-profit organisation dedicated to promote the fighting against Teenage pregnancies in four zones in Tanzania namely: Northern zone, Central zone, Southern zone and Lake zone for the purpose of preventing the spared of pregnancies for the young girls.

It has come to understanding the struggle and fighting against the teenage pregnancies in Tanzania. A mixture of poor tradition, customs and norms and poverty among the majority of Tanzanian’s societies makes the young girls the most vulnerable group of people in Tanzania. Also we understand the livelihood of young girls requires immediate action. Because the number of drop-out rate due to pregnancy increases with every year in Tanzania, therefore, The STePT Foundation decided to take action to assure a safe and bright future for young girls in Tanzania.

 

Also it developed an organisation-wide initiative focusing human, technical and financial resources on the complex causes of the spread of teenage pregnancies in Tanzania. Therefore, the lunching of STePT is a commitment to do its part to address that problem. Special emphasis is given to creating partnerships with governments, faith communities, peer agencies, local communities, families, and young girls’ children.

 

Our vision is to build a Tanzania which care and protects young girls in exercising their basic education rights through fighting teenage pregnancies.

Our mission is to make sure both rural and urban young girls exercise their rights to education and prepare them for future life.

We are focusing in providing adequate information about maternal health for adolescent, creating public awareness on the impact of teenage pregnancies and provide school supports to cover fees, uniform and supplies. Also we assist government and other initiatives in fighting against teenage pregnancies in Tanzania through creating partnership with government, national NGOs and international societies. Furthermore, we lobby the government, members of parliament, private and other sector in adoption of policies, programs and laws promoting the development of young girls in Tanzania and lobbying on bad customs, believes and norms against young children in Tanzania.
