About SIDI’s Background:

Sustainable Investments and Development Initiative (SIDI) is a non for profit autonomous and non government organization that registered under the Non Government Organization act of 2002 of 2005 in Tanzania. It is vision wish to see a community that promote, protect and respects human dignity. All people with access to essential social needs as education opportunity, ensured security, the right to food and nutrition, good rest ,peace and out of social conflicts, democracy and democratization participation, access to clean and safe water and hygienic; massive support to women and children and minority to ensure realization of basic need and rights

SIDI ventures with local and globally to seek support, mutual network and alliance which committed to support and engage on human development to achieve millennium goals by mobilizing resources for interventions, advocate and lobbying policy change and promote private sector growth by build the capacity of civil society to support social change and increase their outreach. SIDI with to protect and support poor families to build their economies and improve micro-business capacities to enhance productivity and realize the social needs and the rights to children and youth participation by supporting parents to know their roles and responsibilities ,developing business skills that enable them to create self employment, provision of psychosocial support, legal aid, capacity building on civic and democratic engagement with a view to promote civic engagement and inclusiveness in Tanzania’s development aspects

 Location;

It has headquartered office in Mwanza region ;as a civil organization –it being works with volunteers in different programs taking parts in the regions, by cooperating with local changes agents, community resource persons, village and street leaders, faith based leaders, elders and communities, although has developed social policies of human resources, financial, corruption prevention, good governance, child –focus, environmental management, gender based ;all of its members and stakeholders have right to access resources in accountable manners

SIDI wish to undertake program those support fueling global-south partnership for economic development

  1. Build project partnership in areas of interest as-education, microfinance, public health ,legal aid and micro business development
  2. Support realization of North-South professional exchange by facilitating-the Volunteers Program in East Africa with difference profession to come and share, learn and create own exposure in social work
  3. Capacity building to civil societies in fundraising and organization development for sustainable organizational growth and development
  4. Identification and dissemination of information of potential donors to be accessed by local civil societies –to search contacts and disseminate to clients by developing business directory to civil societies


Technical Capacity Statement

SIDI’s staff have been innovative and responsible to support communities they serve by facilitating participatory interventions, conduct collaborative research, developing plan of actions, all interventions being promote and create positive social changes to most vulnerable children, youths, women and entire community members flee out of poverty, cured their soul, design and engages towards sustainable development, It has solid diverse background and experience in working with under resourced people in Africa context  


Governance and Management:

The Annual General Meeting is the overall meeting that involvers all members to take actions and decide the fate of their organization. Current SIDI has recruited 86 active members of diverse culture and from difference gender, age, tribes and profession and non professions. It works under difference guidelines and policies in human resources, child protection, corruption prevention, strategic plan and resources utilization in implementing its projects. It oversees its program implementation in a participatory regular, mid –term and annual evaluation

 Accountability Structure:

The structure and principles of accountability and reporting are cleared set-out in the organizational operations /policies that applied and embedded in constitution and guidelines effecting to financial, human resources and administration polices and departmental and programmatic guidelines. SIDI works under openness and transparency in away all information are shared by all stakeholders, staff and members

 

Internal Assessments:

Strengthens: In 2012 SIDI assessed by Elliot Consulting firm ranked ++ as one among the fast growing NGO in Tanzania environment and was ninth the among the 136 NGO’s credited by Mwanza district council as the Best Partners in development process. It has 18 technical staff trained in legal, social works, psychology, accounts, human resources, , it has also stronger administration, and active base at grassroots, good program designs, wide networking, commitment and flexibility and inspiration in actions to achieve sustainable changes

Weakness: Possess little budget, unsustainable sources of finance, inadequate facilities as permanent building ,resource center to meet its fast broadening programs, lack of reliable transport, lack of nationwide circulation newsletters to multiply its best effects and inadequate capital materials

Opportunities: Plenty of most social economic challenges needs social services to overcome poverty, currently Tanzania has 56% of its people living in extreme poverty, adequacy shelters, less foods, inadequate access to education and waters and sanitation services in shorter distance, increasing insecurity to children as raping, bullying, beating, corporal punishment and e and time and disseminate to local clients in needs

These are the most challenges persisting to communities living in Tanzania and needs interventions to drive social changes tremendously .SIDI has expertise to do keen research and develop project/program proposals

Business Management graduate ,experienced and talented entrepreneur woman who has been works tirelessly to ensure organization development is taking path and lead across the region

5. Mrs. Teddy Nyawema- Organization Development Director

A social worker and successful entrepreneur who has been works with different organization across East Africa with international reputation

Programs;

Strengthening Basic Education -formal and non-formal

Strengthening formal basic education for children and adults that for various reasons do not fit into the models of formal education. (e.g. vulnerable and street children, young girls, women, etc)

Promotion of Village based Community Microfinance

A model of microfinance where community groups and group organisations pool and manage their own financial resources and groups, to address their economic needs and access to business skills.

Community empowerment for democratization and legal aid

A strategy to facilitate individual’s and communities’ ownership of the development process through participatory processes and appropriate capacity building efforts. This enables the marginalized, vulnerable and poor people to sustain their development efforts and shoulder responsibilities, thereby promoting women and children on legal aid to protect grabbed materials and the rights of inheritance to property and materials-land, house due to cultural barriers

Culture for leadership building and life skills

In an effort to strengthen the young people to participate, involve and possibly take the lead about development process.  In doing so, interventions through sports, music, arts and culture inspire the young with hope and confidence not only to improve their livelihood with skills but more importantly to get engaged on key issues that affect them and their community directly

Empowering adolescents on their rights

Through innovative programmes focuses on capacity building of adolescent girls with life skills and vocational training who have either missed schooling or have dropped out from school in an effort to equip adolescents to face life confidently as resourceful wives and mothers avoiding possible domestic violence and slavery, human trafficking, HIV/AIDS.

Capacity building to civil societies:

To build the capacity in order to increase access to resources, broaden outreach and expand networking and alliance in local and international arena .The program is being publishing Donor’s directory each year and disseminate to civil societies across the region

North-South Professional Exchange

It aim to facilitate global partnership through professional exchange visits between South and North expatriates in order to share experience, exposure and resources. The program is available on request and applicant shall cover all costs to be incurred includes organizational fee

Resources:

SIDI use local and external funds to support its programs .preferably those from its friends based in USA, CANADA and EU, international corporations, while it being collected certain fee as contribution for advising local partners in resources mobilization countrywide and fees contributed with its members and volunteers to cover the running cost of its programs

Grant makers/corporation/volunteers are welcome by two hands to work with us by developing new project ,access data for research and support existing new project as provision for funding , materials support as books, reports, computer and software ,volunteering and technical supports as if it aligned with our programs and interests and we will acknowledge for your support

South-North Volunteerism Program Exchange:

It is a mission seek to bring social skills and experience in Tanzania voluntary to reduce social inequality between South and North hemisphere through volunteerism approaches by developing and supporting technical skills and research to find out sustainable solution to uplift the lives of the poor and most vulnerable communities in needy, share global experience in solving social economic challenges ,enhance and stimulate technical exposures to African expatriates to learn new and innovative social skills from developed world for local context .

To reach a dream a Volunteer has to apply for an opportunity with resume attachment, pay eligible fees and other obligation statues and up-on arrival, SIDI will place in a variety of projects which include childcare and orphanage placements, teaching projects, medical and economic empowerment programs and no political rally, human rights champagne, any project for profit making and business investments mission affiliations programs to be applied in the application package.

Coordinating Organization:

This is a program organized and administered by SIDI as a life-changing experience. In time you come in Africa to volunteer is a time to share your enthusiasm, time, skills, and energy and give out yourself in a way that allows you to effect positive change.

Applications must be made using the on-line application attached your current resume. No formal application package available use- your own format as normal application is with basic detailes-full name,country of origion,profession,duration etc , applications are sent first to the Volunteer Co-ordinator for initial assessment. The next stage will be for SIDI to reply your request online within 5 working days prompotly: basis on requesting further information if didn’t appeared in your initial application.

It is also a chance to focus your mind on the objectives of your trip and what is expected of you as a volunteer. Once your final application has been processed; you will be assigned to your interviewer by email to clarify your desire and ambition. Therefore it is very important that when completing the application form you ensure that your email address is correct.                                                      

 About Tanzania:

It is the home to over 120 local tribes, some of the most recognizable natural wonders in Africa such as Mt Kilimanjaro, Serengeti, Zanzibar islands and Victoria Falls and is one of the most appealing and popular tourist destinations in Africa. It enjoys religion, political and tribal stability and while its people are good and ease to make friendship with foreigners, Tanzania although has over 120 tribes its people are talking Swahili language as the nation common language and English is being accepted in most official and business areas includes Government offices.

120 Tribes based in Tanzania are sharing the models of their traditional and cultural aspects includes the model of crafting, painting and documenting their art and crafts and have similar words when writing their words and pronounce few words but they living in peace and cooperation .The Tanzanian economy has made some great improvements since its independence in 1961 and is one among the Nation receiving highest direct foreign investments includes gold, gas, oil and precious metals

Program Requirements                                                                            

Volunteers must be 17 years or older at the beginning of the program. The volunteer should bring energy and enthusiasm to make a difference. You would need lots of patience since you are working with new communities, be available for an overseas phase of 1-3 months be, in the opinion likely to benefit from and contribute to the program development; be able to pass the necessary migration obligation medical and police check requirements; be able to raise the necessary funding required to meet living and organizational cost; be able to communicate effectively in English and learn basic words of Swahili.

Project Location:

SIDI provides volunteer placements in and around Mwanza city and surrounded villages and communities in Northern Tanzania. Mwanza is surrounded by Lake Victoria close to some of Africa's most famous landscapes and national parks as Mount Meru on the eastern edge of the eastern branch of the Great Rift Valley, it has a mild climate and is close to Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, Lake Manyara, Olduvai Gorge, Tarangire National Park, and Mount Kilimanjaro, The area is very popular among the tourists especially those taking safaris as well as beach diving, swimming and fishing
