     3.1 ESTABLISHMENT OF KIKUKWE DISPENSARY

In the past health patients in Kikukwe village has to travel long distance in search of treatment thus increase death risk and loss of precious time both for patient and caretakers. Moreover women have to travel long distances in search of maternity clinic and thus increased risks to pregnant women and children.   

KCDI organized the efforts of the villagers and seek the help of British Tanzania Society &Tanzania Development trust to the tune of Tshs 35,000,000 and built a modern dispensary at the village which is now managed by the village government under the supervision of the district council.

 Currently the dispensary is serving approximately 150 patients per day and is holding approximately 92% of all medicine required at the dispensary level.

 

In this aspect KCDI and the villagers has met the national health policy which stipulate that villages with population of more than 2000 peoples must have its own dispensary services.

 

    1. WATER SUPPLY SCHEME

Villagers through KCDI have formed a water development committee which has a task of overseeing that the services i.e. water supply the villagers enjoyed in early nineteen ninety is brought back by the construction of shallow and deep wells through the villagers effort with assistance of well wishers and donors.

 KCDI managed to acquire funds from Tanzania breweries for implementation of phase one which include ground water surveying and drilling a deep borehole at Omurushenye area. The borehole has a capacity of discharging water at the rate of 35000 litres per hour, and when accomplished, will be capable of supplying water to the whole community of Kikukwe village.

 EDUCATION SUPPORT FOR ORPHANS

    1. Since 2002, KCDI has been supporting children in secondary school to attain education through financial, material and psychological support. Up to now 69 orphans and children from poor families have been benefited with this scheme and approximately 22,000,000 have so far spent.

      This initiative has been possible with the help of finance from Africas children, consolidated investment, Twiga Bancorp etc.

 LIBRARY SERVICES

    1. KCDI is running a library at its office at Kikukwe village. The library contains various books and articles such as story books, educative magazines, school text books, journals, etc. students and villagers are allowed to borrow the textbooks so as to increase their knowledge on various issues,

    2. Kcdi is running a project to conserve the environment, currently it has provided tress for planting in thr three primary schools of Kikukwe village namely Omurushenye, Nyungwe and Kikukwe, it has also provided tres to Kikukwe secondary and Kikukwe Dispensary. 

      Under this programme more than 20000 trees worth Tshs 5,000,000 have been planted. 

    3. BEE KEEPING FOR THE WIDOWS

The bee keeping project is one of the many a number managed by KCDI. It has started in middle of year 2004 by the initiatives of KCDI chairman by selling the idea to the deprived women of Kikukwe women whom by participatory approach discussed in depth and agreed in principle to run the project. The purpose of the project is to promote entrepreneurship among disadvantaged population in rural areas by introducing modern bee keeping practices using Langstroth hives. 

To start the project received support from the British Tanzania Society London chapter and consolidated investment limited a company owned by the chairman to the tune of Tshs 8,000,000.  

The project has created harmony to the widows whom in the past they were living difficult life depending on begging etc. These widows now live in peace from the income generated by their kept hives. 

The project has increased the economy of the village. It has further increase the capacity of the widows to care well their households. 

    1. GRAFTED MANGOES PROJECT (750 GBP DONATED BY BTS/TDT)

KCDI designed an income generating project to support the poor orphan families in kikukwe village to manage their daily life. The project is supported by BTS/TDT londonb chapter to the tune of 750GBP and is going on well. The mangoes are cared by the caregivers, schools and religious bodies. The distribution was done as follows; Omurushenye primary school 20 mango trees, kikukwe primary school 20, Nyungwe primary school 20, individuals including orphan caregivers and widows 410, roman catholic church 10, Lutheran church 10 and village mosque 10. 

The project is closely supervised by the ward agriculture extension officer, further more KCDI has attendant whom visit the sites after every three days. Out of the total 505 mango trees received from Sokoine University of Agriculture 399 are growing well.  

    1. LOAN DISBURSEMENT PROJECT

KCDI has managed to provide simple loans ranging from Tshs 40,000 to 200,000 to more than 150 villagers in Kanyigo wards. These loans varies others managed farming projects and others shop businesses etc. 

The project is continuing well with most of the borrowers honoured their matured obligations.
