 SHORT HISTORY OF THE ORGANIZATION,OBJECTIVES OF THE ORGANIZATION ,MAIN AREAS OF ACTIVITY

Its aim includes facil;itating and promoting access to information technology for sustainable development initiatives,supporting marginalised community members(women,youth,disabled,street children,elders),conducting environment campaign and sensitization towards HIV/AIDS and STI preventions.

CIT runs CTLC(commuity technology learning centers),we provide a free and low cost,friendly place where people of all ages can learn about computer use,internet and develop techinical skills.The focal point will be to work with MVC and OVC,build relationship with ward executive,education and community development officials in building a mass awareness and raising consciousness on community computer technology.We strive to building confidence,self-efficacy and self-esteem to vulnerable groups

CIT-A part from information technology initiatives,we strive to open and establish pre-school(kindergatern) and introduce computer learning at early age for vulnerable children affected by HIV/ADS and poverty.

The project will employ local and international exparts to deliver the services and to sensitize the community members through advocacy. empowering and training on the issues affecting elders, women,youth and children and maintaining the meaningful care of natural resources.

CIT has it’s headquarter in Mwanza region, and its activities will initially target in the rural and urban areas in two respective regions (Mwanza and Kagera regions).

CIT Specific Objectives

1To engage in the work of community development trough information, communication and technology.

2  To engage in mass mobilization on HIV/AIDS,STI, MALARIA and environment control

3  To promote gender equality and equity in accessing computer technology.

4  to facilitate the establishment of community based information centers for sustainable development and promote gender equality

5  To network with local and international organization to cater for information technology advancement

6  To support most vulnerable widows and children living in difficult circumstances

 SITUATIONAL ANALYSIS/PROBLEM BACKGROUND

The term Information and Communication Technology (ICT) refers to forms of technology that are used for communication and to transmit, store, create, share or exchange information. This broad definition of ICT includes technologies such as: radio,television, video, telephone (both fixed line and mobile), computer and network hardware and software; as well as the equipment and services associated with these technologies,such as electronic mail, text messaging and radio broadcasts

Tanzania’s education policies and education development programmes. As stated in the education policy of1995, the overall aims of education in Tanzania are, among other things:

to promote the acquisition and appropriate use of literary, social, scientific,

vocational, technological, professional and other forms of knowledge, skills and

understanding for the development and improvement of man and society.”

The use of ICT in education is the bedrock of a knowledge society and will enable the country to contribute both to achieving Education for All (EFA) goals and reducing the digital divide

The Tanzania Development Vision 2025

The Vision envisages a nation imbued with five main attributes: high quality livelihood,peace, stability and unity; good governance, a well educated and learning society, and a strong and competitive economy capable of producing sustainable growth and shared profits. The Vision explicitly includes ICT by noting ‘The new opportunities that ICT is opening up can be harnessed to meet the goals of the Vision’

The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)

Tanzania is committed to achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) for poverty reduction. The MDGs to achieve universal primary education and to address gender disparity in education are of direct relevance to the MoEVT, as is the goal of developing a global partnership for development. This policy takes heed of the fact that ICT is considered an important tool in assisting Tanzania to achieve all MDGs.Therefor that, In our inter-connected world, knowledge and information are becoming corner stones for the development of a society, as is the ability to communicate. It is our duty to prepare our community members so that they can benefit from and contribute to our country's development in the information age.
