Back ground of TASLI

TASLI was established in 2006 as part of the implementation plan of resolution made by participants of the world Association of the Sign language interpreters (WASLI) meeting held in Cape town South Africa in 2005.The meeting among other things demonstrated a need for interpreters to establish associations within their countries in order to facilitate proper networking and Information sharing.

The formation of the TASLI was very challenging due to lack of formal structure or networking among interpreters.

The only network was through Sign language department in CHAVITA which also had no capacity to facilitate the process as result TASLI was formulated by few interpreters residing in DAR-ES-SALAAM and the process was only shared to other interpreters through telephone-mail and face to face(sometimes).

This formulation process created the following challenges;

Members did not have fully participation the formulation and approval of the constitution.

Members did not have opportunity to elect leaders through formal structure and hence a transitional leadership was elected only by few members to accomplish the registration process.

Little sense of ownership to members.

Lack of coordinated joint plan.

The above highlighted challenges created a force of obligation to the transitional Leadership to solicit funds to enable members to convey the General meeting.
