TTB INTRODUCES SWAHILI TOURISM EXPO AT INDABA
The Tanzania Tourist Board (TTB) led team Tanzania comprised of 52 private companies and public institutions to participate in a four-day INDABA Tourism Fair in Durban, South Africa, at the Albert Luthuli Convention Center (ICC) from April 11 – 14, 2013. The Fair was organized by Witch & Wizard Creative (Pty) Ltd.
INDABA which the biggest tourism fair in Africa so far attracts many exhibitors from all over the world every year.

Swahili International Tourism Expo (SITE) is Tanzania’s first ever International Tourism Expo, developed by Tanzania Tourist Board to be held annually for four days in October at the Mlimani City Convention Centre in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania’s commercial capital located along the coastline of Tanzania, East Africa, this year will be held from 2nd to 5th. SiTE will focus on inbound and outbound travel to Africa and is expected to draw hundreds of tourism and travel professionals from all over the world. The Expo will take the format of a travel and trade exhibition with a conference element focusing on topical tourism, sustainability, conservation and other market related issues.
The planning for Swahili International Tourism Expo has taken cognizance of the continued existence of Karibu Travel & Tourism Fair (KTTF) which has been running in Tanzania since the year 2000, and the need to ensure that, the two fairs complement each other. KTTF which is held in Arusha in June each year focuses on the regional market, while the Swahili International Tourism Expo will be held in Dar es Salaam in October each year and will exclusively focus on international clientele.
The word “Swahili” is an Arab word, meaning “the coast”. Ultimately it came to be applied to the people living on the East Africa coast and their language. The ‘Swahili’ coast refers to The Mystical Islands of Zanzibar and Tanzania mainland’s coastline which boasts of 805 kilometres of palm fringed unspoilt beaches. TTB INAUGURATES SWAHILI INTERNATIONAL TOURISM EXPO PROGRAMME IN SOUTH AFRICA
In an effort to promote Tanzania tourism, the Tanzania Tourist Board (TTB) led a delegation to Durban, South Africa, to participate in a four-day INDABA Tourism Fair, which was held at the Albert Luthuli Convention Center (ICC) from April 11 – 14, 2013. This is part of a regular TTB programme, which this time involved a total of 52 private companies and public institutions for the INDABA event.
The Tanzania Tourist Board took advantage of this crucial moment to officially inaugurate its Swahili International Tourism Expo (SITE) programme targetting inbound and outbound travel and trade exhibitions using conferences as a selling point for tropical tourism, sustainability, conservation and other market related issues.
The Swahili International Tourism Expo (SITE) is Tanzania’s first ever international annual programme developed by TTB and is scheduled to be held in October, this year, at the Mlimani City Convention Centre in Dar es Salaam. Chinese Conglomerate to invest in Serengeti Park

A Chinese millionaire with capital worth over 700 million US dollars, Mr. Zhou Yi has shown interest to build a luxurious accommodation facility in Serengeti National Park. Zhou declared his interest yesterday before the Tanzanian delegation visiting China to look for prospective Chinese investors in the tourism sector.
Zhou who owns a very successful business company in China said that, he visited Serengeti in March this year and was very much attracted by the beauty of the place. “It is a coincidence to have met here and I can assure you that I have been impressed by the park and I am now in the initial stages of applying for an investment site in the area to put up a modern accommodation facility to help increase the number of beds.
Mr. Zhou is the owner of the Hengxu Group of Companies with headquarters in Sichuan Province specializing in the production of various building materials; industrial packaging materials and financial services. The company employs over 7,000 people.
The Tanzanian delegation was participating in the Chinese Outbound Travel & Tourism Market (COTTM) that took place from 9-11 April 2013. The team is now conducting Road Shows in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou cities to lure Chinese tourists and investors to Tanzania.
In Beijing the Road-Show attracted a big number of investors who were impressed by the existing investment procedures especially in the protected areas. They are thinking of visiting the country to have an on the spot experience of the areas before they decide to invest there.
Earlier on, both the Tanzanian Ambassador in China Mr. Philip Marmo and Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism Ms. Nuru Millao had assured the participants that Tanzania is the best place to visit and see the natural attractions which the country is uniquely blessed with after Brazil.
Chinese investors have been encouraged to take the advantage of the country’s political stability and the prevailing peace to invest in Tanzania.
Attended by both government, Embassy officials and private sector stakeholders from Tanzania, road-show in Beijing presented various investment opportunities in the country especially in big cities, protected areas of National Parks; Ngorongoro Conservation Area and Archaeological Heritage sites.

Live coverage of the Serengeti Wildebeest Migration by the China Central Television attracts Chinese to visit the country as tourists. This was said yesterday by the Vice Chairman of the Chinese National Tourism Administration Mr. Zhu Shanzhong to a visiting Tanzanian delegation.
Mr. Shanzhong said that Serengeti National Park where a number of live coverage of the wildebeest migration has been done since January this year, is now becoming popular to the Chinese population and expressed his hope that the move would increase the number of Chinese visiting Tanzania as tourists in the near future.
He further said that the recent visit to Tanzania by the Chinese president HE Xi Jinping has exposed the country in China and the international community and wrapped up by saying that its uniqueness in natural attractions must propel the country to fight for a big share of the lucrative Chinese outbound tourism market.
In responding to the earlier request by the Tanzania delegation on training and capacity building areas in the tourism sector, Mr. Shanzhong said that National Tourism Administration of China together with their counterpart in Tanzania will prepare Memorandum of Understanding which will be signed in the near future and which will categorically specify areas of cooperation in terms of assistance and cooperation between the two countries.
During the meeting, Mr. Shanzhong lobbied for the support of Tanzanian government in approving the Chinese language to become one of the official languages in the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). An approval from more than half of the member countries is needed for a language to be approved as official language. Tanzanian delegation led by the Director of Tourism Mr. Ibrahim Mussa promised to support the Chinese move before the coming UNWTO General Assembly that will be held in Zambia and Zimbabwe in August this year.
TANZANIA ENCOURAGES CHINESE TO INVEST IN TOURISM SECTOR

Tanzania has encouraged Chinese investors to invest in the country, as there are many opportunities in the tourism industry, which have not been well explored. This was said by the Director of Tourism in the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism Mr. Ibrahim Mussa to the officials from Chaoyang District Commission of Tourism in Beijing.
Mr. Mussa who leads a Tanzanian delegation on a special mission to promote destination Tanzania in China, said Tanzania is looking forward to have positive cooperation with the Chinese investors in the areas of accommodation facilities to cater for the number of tourist arrivals in the country. He also mentioned that Chinese expertise is highly encouraged in the areas of training the tourism personnel to meet the demands of the tourists visiting the country.
During the meeting, Director General of Tanzania National Parks Mr. Allan Kijazi informed the CBD officials that TANAPA has already prepared an Investment Prospectus, which provides areas and opportunities of investments in the parks. He further said that currently there are 25 sites in the parks which including four in Serengeti National Park; three in Tarangire National Park; six in Katavi National Park and four in Saadani National Park have been allocated for private sectors and encouraged the Chinese investors to grasp that opportunity.
He said currently TANAPA has about 30 investors in the parks but mainly from United States and other European countries and that none of them is from China. Kijazi mentioned that China is a fast growing economy country and that is seen as a potential source market for Tanzanian tourism. He urged the officials from Chaoyang district to help market the destination Tanzania through adequate publicity in the Chaoyang media houses.
On his side, the Managing Director of Tanzania Tourist Board Dr. Aloyce Nzuki encouraged the Chinese state owned tour operators to open up their branches in the country as a means to increase the number of tourists in the country. He mentioned the areas of cruise boating in Lake Tanganyika and Lake Victoria as well as railway tourism in the Saadani- Mkomazi circuit as good potential areas of investment which is open to Chinese investors. He also urged the Chaoyang tourism officials to place the presence of Tanzania tourist attractions in the population of Beijing.
The two parties agreed to work on the proposed areas of cooperation and prepare a Memorandum of Understanding which will be signed in the near future as a way to maintain the goodwill relationship existing between China and Tanzania since the old days of the former first presidents Julius Nyerere and Mao Zedong.
China has promised to promote destination Tanzania in China as way to increase the number of Chinese tourist arrivals in the country. This was said yesterday by the Vice Director of Chaoyang District Commission of Tourism Development of Beijing Municipality Mr. Zhang Aijun to a Team Tanzania who is visiting China on a mission to promote tourism in the country.

A NEW INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL AND TOURISM FAIR IN TANZANIA
In the bid to promote tourism in Tanzania, the Tanzania Tourist Board (TTB) in partnership with Witch & Wizard Creative (Pty) Ltd, South Africa, today have signed a contract to establish an International Tourism Fair in Tanzania to be known as Swahili Tourism Fair effective from October 2nd -5th, 2013. The signing ceremony held at the Mlimani City Conference Centre in Dar es Salaam. The signed contract allows TTB to work with Witch & Wizard Creative (Pty) Ltd, which is the company that manages the INDABA Tourism Fair in Durban (South Africa). The Fair [INDABA] is one of the largest tourism marketing events on the African calendar and one of the top three ‘must visit’ events of its kind on the global calendar. INDABA is owned by South Africa Tourism Board and attracts well over 13,000 delegates from various travel, tourism and related industries around the world. It is expected that the Swahili Tourism Fair will grow and eventually become as famous as the INDABA of South Africa and will hence be the iconic annual event for travel and tourism promotion in Tanzania.

The Chairman of Tanzania Tourist Board commented that “As globalization, the World is getting like a small village; We have decided to work with Witch & Wizard (Pty) Ltd because they are professionals and for many years we have been attending the INDABA, so we have enough experience with their work”.
