FCS VISITS METI

A delegation from Foundation for Civil Society with its donors visited METI on 16^th April, 2012. The delegation was lead by Ms Marilyn comprised of5 FCS staff and representatives from their donors from the following countries:

• Sweden
• Denmark
• Netherland
• Switzerland
• Canada
• United Kingdom

A representative from the Ministry of Community Development, Women, gender and Children of Tanzania was also among the visitors.

The main objective of the visit was to meet METI members and be informed how the organization has benefited from the grant of Tzs 7,500,000/= from FCS for organizational capacity building that was granted in 2010.

The delegation was received by some METI leaders and members at Buhongwa which is the headquarters of the organization. The delegation used more than one and a half hours asking questions that geared towards knowing how the funds was used and how it has helped to change the situation of the organization. METI leaders and members responded accordingly until the visitors seemed to be satisfied. Apart from enquiring from the Organization, the delegation also gave constructive ideas that would help the organization to achieve its objectives. For example, looking for ways to make sure that we get funds from other locally available resources than just waiting for eternal donors which might delay the implementation of the planned activities.

They also urged the organization to use its organizational capacities to influence the local authorities at district level to allocate funds for to support the OVCs as per national policy on the issue and that through such funds METI will also benefit by getting some amount for the services of OVCs.

On the other hand they, commended the organization members’ commitment to contribute money monthly for the day-to- day running expenses of the organization instead of depending on donor funds.

METI appreciates for the visit as it has opened doors for future betterment of its activities to realize its objectives.
