IZAAS MEDICAL PROJECT

IZAAS is a local, non-profit non-governmental organization located in Bukoba, Tanzania, dedicated to providing care and support to vulnerable children and adults, with a particular focus on helping those with disabilities. The project was established in November 1997 by a prominent member of the local business community. It was initially founded as a programme to assist the physically disabled but has since expanded into assisting people with HIV/AIDS, providing educational support to vulnerable children, many of whom come from single headed families or orphaned, and providing nutritional support to the HIV infected and elderly. Other assistance is being given to the albinos; that is the 34 (16 male, 18 female) albino children atMugezaMsetoPrimary School and 264 adults (140 male, 122 females). Other activities being carried out by the organization includes; poultry, tailoring, bicycle repair and a small and medium scale loom weaving business as an enterprise development project to benefit the disable and vulnerable groups of people.

Above all, IZAAS beneficiaries come from a wide range of faith backgrounds (Muslims, Lutherans, Catholics, Anglican, and Pentecostals amongst others). Indeed, IZAAS enjoys a wide network of partnerships with these other faith based groups.
