Of course fundraising is an issue to many of the CBOs and NGOs in Tanzania.We PELO (Promotion of Education Link Organization) have an initiative of availing our expertise to raise funds through providing capacity building training to individuals,groups and other NGOs.We have been providing training to those who did not get secondary education to due to various reasons but already having other skills but still in need of getting secondary education.We do it by establishing the secondary education units.We established a secondary education unit in Dar es salaam in January 18,2005 and now we have in this December 2012 established a secondary education unit in Mwanza where will have some classes for school dropout due to pregnancies too.On implementing this initiative we get two groups of individuals.There are those who can afford to pay for the training fee but there are those who can not afford to pay fees.For those who can not afford we have established a STUDENT SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM whereby we are asking various donors/funding agencies to support us.In Mwanza of within week of identifying schooldropouts due to pregnancies who are in need of getting support through this student sponsorship program have amounted to 120 girls just in Nyamagana district.
However for those CBOs and NGOs that need to strenghen their statuses of getting funding from donors,we want to share with them the key skills we have.We have a skill of facilitating the strategic planning process for the organization to have a strategic plan.But also the Director of PELO have recentry got TOT (Training of Trainers) on developing a fundraising strategy.To have a strategic plan is a very first thing that a funder wishes to see when he/she has decided to partner wit an organization.And there are some other funders who reject their decisions of partnering with an organization after finding that it has no strategic plan.How do you relax with your organization while it has no strategic plan and yet you hope to get larger gifts?Ourselves we were asking ourselves for many days on how we can attract more donors.But we realized that we can not think of getting strategic funders while we dont have a strategic plan.And then we took a step.
