The project creates awareness to the grass root Mvomero district communities living in district villages of Mkindo, Mndela, Misufini, Dihombo, Kambala, Kisumangulu and Hembeti on the importance of going to school particularly for girls who have been less privileges as far as education is concerned and gender desegration and customary harassment.

SOCIETY FOR WOMEN AND AIDS IN AFRICA (SWAA) in collaboration with the Mvomero district council visited Hembeti ward at village of Mkindo, Mndela, Kisumangulu, Misufini, Kambala and Hembeti respectively. Discussion was made between us and the said villages including primary school leadership. It was observed that the attendance of girls was very poor both primary schools and Hembeti secondary.

This poor attendance was because of many reasons ignorance among the parents of the said villages was a major issue. They believe that education was for boys and duties of girls was to be wives and bear children. Early pregnancies among girls were a common site to come across in those villages. There was no cooperation between parents and schools curb absenteeism in school; and those who attended schools were harassed by boys and got disappeared.

This situation necessitated our organization to think twice and come forward to curb such alarming situation of absenteeism among girls in schools. Education was necessary to give the communities in villages mentioned above on the importance of education to girls and abolish subordination towards female fork in those villages.

Cultural group of our organization will take active part in sensitizing the communities in all villages through cultural shows and group discussion. All the activities will focus on the rights of women in any society worldwide and Hembeti in particular.

THE NEED FOR HOSTELS TO SERVE GIRLS

To begin with the communities selected which included leaders of the said villages, ward leaders; Mvomero district development committee and our organization (SWAA) sat together and decided to build a hostel for girls. These secondary school girls students will come from all seven villages at equal rate.

The committee mandated our organization to spear head project and seek funds from JAPAN GRANT assistance for grass root human SECURITY PROJECT. Also the committee decided that the project should be sustainable by making the project to be long term. All the villages involved in the project should contribute materials and manpower annually so that more intakes increases every year for girls and also make sure that they continue even when your support stops.
