(MDC)

Mlimani Development Centre (MDC) is a small local organization providing technical, educational, and hands-on volunteer support to community projects on the island of Zanzibar, Tanzania.

We are dedicated to improving the life of orphans, vulnerable children and women by providing them shelter, education, accommodation, health care, financial support, cloth and legal assistance and vocational training.

Our goal:

To promote the culture and heritage of this beautiful country and to help our poorest residents develop the skills and resources they need to achieve a healthy lifestyle and sustainable livelihood.

MDC Objectives:

Improve the quality of life for vulnerable collectives, women, youth and children in Zanzibar, Tanzania.

Specific objectives:

  1. Reduce the number of street kids in Zanzibar by providing secure shelter.
  2. Providing community level support to ensure protection and well being in the home.
  3. Assist women and children achieve a better future with education, Microfinance and vocational support.
  4. Create a farming system which will help supply nutritional, resources for the orphanage in order to increase the self sustainability.
  5. Implement an internal and abroad organization system which will start new relationships with the professional rural community in Zanzibar in order reduce the local unemployment.

We work primarily in rural area and Bububu Kidich, an under-serviced but vibrant beachside community located several kilometres outside Stone town in Zanzibar.

We are a registered organization under the Societies Act No. 6 of 1995 NGOS Laws of Zanzibar in the year 2011. Our services are available to all regardless of gender, age, tribe, ethnicity, disability or religion

 

Zanzibar Island. Located off Tanzania's east coast, Zanzibar is a unique place prized for its exquisite beaches, distinctive architecture, rich and ancient Swahili culture, Arab-African cuisine and the warmth and friendliness of its people.

Less well known is the fact that over half of Zanzibar’s survive on less than $1 US per day, malnutrition is common, literacy levels are less than 60% in certain areas, and many residents lack access to basic health care, safe water, and education

MDC Mission:

Provide alternative ways of life through love, ethics, discipline and responsibility; all of which are based in an effective use of the material, cultural and spiritual resources that each person or community possesses.

Make it possible for MDC to extend to other regions, maintaining its ideology and its dream of always providing opportunities
