1.0.background

1.1.introduction

Youth Empowerment Society (YES) is a registered non-governmental and non-profit making organization established in Tanzania on 19th September 2008 and come into active in 1st January 2009. YES works to strengthen and promote education strategy, provides HIV/AIDS, Human right/Civil and Entrepreneurship education as well as building capacity of young people for sustainable development so that they can effectively participate in decision making whether local, regional or national level.YES founded with 4 young people where number of members increased up to 30 member in 2010.

December 2010 marked YES with two years of experience on youth development in Tanzania that works to influence youth to explore various opportunities which make positive contribution to the society for the purpose of improving their lives and serves their needs and aspirations.

2.0. Achievements

Since establishment of  YES it has been able to implement various activities/ projects in collaboration with partners organisation. Those projects which implemented by YES were focused in three areas which are Youth empowerment, Capacity building and Policy advocacy.

2.1. Youth Empowerment

Youth Empowerment is the core business of YES where capacity building and policy advocacy work as essential tool to enable youth to engage effectively in development issues so as to improve their lives especially those who are socially disadvantaged and impoverished. 

YES implemented sports and education development project where young people who are in and out of schools were participated and equiped with materials or technical supports so as to enable them to met their intended goals. This project entitled to collect two secondary school, two primary schools, two orphans center, and adults who live in mwananyamala especially Kopa street. The objective of the project is to support sports and education development programmes within orphans centers, primary and secondary school as well as to support streets youth sports clubs.

Education Quality Improvement Programme (EQUIP)

Since the government introduced free and compulsory primary education the number of children enrolled in primary school have been ever since where nowadays therein lies the problem. Although the government committed to solve this problem by building more secondary school, YES revealed that there is more to be done to strengthen education development specially regarding teachers, training facilities and the school environment, inadequate classrooms and school materials

YES revealed that absence of education materials and conductive environment for student and pupils to acquire quality education are major problems which are facing education sector.

With this in mind YES requested donation of education materials to Macmilan Aidan Ltd to support the implementation of  EQUIP programme. Macmillan aidan as business company donated books and other education materials. After the implementation of this programme Macmillan Aidan  as publisher and suppliers of education materials in primary, secondary and high institution continued to support YES and played vital role to support education development whether local, region and national level.
