Women and Children Legal Aid Organisation (WOLEA)

TANGA MJINI, Tanzania

The organisation was formed in February 1999 . Where six women organised themselves to form a gender group with a specific objective of advocasing women right in our community. The women involed were between 35-60 years old and were Evelyn Veronica Blandina Agnes and Grace.

Evelyn Verinica and Blandina were school teachers by profession Grace who is the office secretary was the youngest of all. Immediately after the formation of the group these women went to a six month traing in Law to become parallegals. This training was counducted by bigger organisation (infact) and the purpose was to prepare them to offer the basic legal rights to grass-root women. From that time to now we have been receiving Law publications book lets and other law materials from other women organisations e.g TAWLA WiLDAF etc.

Evelyn who is the Director of our group volunteered a room in her house which we used it as our office. Luckily by 2003 we acquired our official registration as a non governmental organisation and soon after that we hired an office in town.

Now we have more 3 members: Salome a lawyer by proffesion Asma has a good experience in accounts, Eunice a commercial teacher.altogether we 9 women who work on voluntery bases 3 work full time and 6 work part time The target group of our organisation is the grass\root women
