Short Summary
60% of children in Potwe ward are orphan and vulnerable; 90% of them lack birth certificate, meaning that they are not legally recognized when claim inheritance . Help Tujikomboe Group with fund in order to enable it execute Community Mobile Birth Registration and provision of Birth Certificate to 518 Orphans and Vulnerable Children affected by HIV/AIDS in Potwe ward, located in Muheza District, Tanga Region, Tanzania
THE NECESSITY AND URGENCY
Just imagine the reality ahead of them if these Orphans and Vulnerable Children not supported with birth certificate. It is no doughty that; it will be very difficult to caregivers and relatives to enforcing their right to parental property in a court of law. The child who has no birth certificate is always in danger of being shut out of society-denied the right to an official identity, a recognized name and a nationality. It should be noted that; some of these OVCs are cared by older children while other nurtured by relatives who are poor and old that they do not have enough funds for transport and accommodation to go long distance to the District Birth Registrar office in searching for birth certificate. Lack of birth certificate will exacerbates their poverty to the MVCs and underscores their marginalization. While birth certificate does not of itself guarantee education, health, protection and participation; its absence can put these fundamental rights beyond the reach of those already on the margins of society.

The Impact
Your financial support will enhance Tujikomboe Group to have basic and strong evidenced based data to be used to roll forward universal birth registration in Tanzania: Tujikomboe Group, through its experience of conducting mobile birth registration in rural communities find the necessity of amending birth registration acts to allow localization of birth registration process in Tanzania. Tujikomboe Group will continue to advice government of Tanzania through RITA(Registration, Insolvency and Trusteeship Agency) to localize the process of birth registration to marginalized poor children. The aim is to use health facilities as registration point, so that a new born can get birth certificate within the age of 90 days and that all < 5 years children attending clinic for immunization can be registered and provided with birth certificate. At the local, village government should be empowered by laws to register birth and provide the certificate. All these have been adopted by RITA through its <5years National Birth Registration Strategy(U5NBRS) although its implementation records a slow pace. With your funding support, Tujikomboe Group will fasten the process of implementation of Under 5 National Birth Registration Strategy(U5NBRS).This will be done using nation review meeting of the U5NBRS and other advocacy strategies to awake RITA and other stakeholder to speed up implementation of U5NBRS.
