VOLUNTEER PROJECTS

VOLUNTEER TEACHING FINE ARTS AND ENGLISH IN TANZANIA

Fine arts is extremely important for uniting children of Tanzania, its fine arts that makes children express their feelings through drawings, and at the same time education is important to improve lives of the poor and most vulnerable children. Volunteers need to help in Art and encourage them to complete their education

Project Overview

Volunteers are placed in private schools, public schools, or orphanage schools. The majority of the schools where volunteers are placed are constantly understaffed and are always in need of new volunteers. In this program, volunteers can choose whether to teach alone or assist local teachers. The common subjects that are taught include, English, Math, Social Studies, Art, Science and Physical Education. Most schools have a total number of children ranging from 140 to 300; the age range of the children is from 3 years to 13 years. Most schools select their children from the surrounding area from low income families but also accept orphans who are in great need.

For the remainder of your time, you will be free to enjoy the vacationing aspects of your trip.

Unite Tanzania Children anticipates and encourages desire for travel and adventure. Time away from volunteering is open for voulunteer to decide activities. Volunteer may decide to take advantage of the local culture and spend time within the community over the weekend. Otherwise, there is ample opportunity to exploreTanzaniaand all it has to offer. Long weekends can be taken to go on safari or to travel further afield to places such asZanzibar, Dar-es-salaam, Mombasa . If volunteers wish to volunteer over the weekends they can join local teams and visit other orphanages (or other children organizations) to spend time simply playing with and entertaining the children.

VOULUNTEER IN HEALTH CARE AND MEDICAL CLINICS

A great opportunity for volunteers to donate their skills and time to helping others in need, while gaining hands-on medical experience and learning first-hand about medical care in Tanzania – common diseases, treatments, and issues affecting healthcare in the country.

Thousands of Tanzanians die every year because of lack of proper medical care and equipment. We place our volunteers in a number of medical clinics and hospitals in urban and suburban Tanga. Most of these dispensaries and hospitals have primitive equipment and facilities that in most cases limit the practitioner’s ability to perform well. Volunteers are placed into hospitals and dispensaries according to their qualifications and experience. Medical volunteers will need to demonstrate initiative and a readiness to work in a new environment. Volunteers will be observing surgeries, taking blood pressure, administering vaccines, along with a wide range of other medical tasks

Volunteers will be assisting local nurses in the labor room, giving vaccinations to the new born, general cleaning in the ward, and treating mothers and their children who come to attend the clinic. Other duties include observing surgeries, taking blood pressure, administering vaccines, along with a wide range of other medical tasks.

VOLUNTEER IN A SPECIAL NEEDS SCHOOL IN TANZANIA

Special Needs Children’s Centers are a very new concept inTanzaniaand there are still very few of these centers. Most have hardly any qualified teachers or caretakers and lack enough learning equipment. This program needs volunteers because these kids need special care and attention andTanzaniacannot afford to employ the necessary skilled people and equipment to deliver this service adequately. Historically, parents used to lock these children at home so that they couldn’t be seen by other people. Parents where ashamed to have these kids and believed them to be a curse, this in turn has led to these kids being deprived of their basic rights like education and the chance to enjoy life.

The role as a volunteer will be show the love and attention to these children that they so clearly need and deserve. To act as a role model to the children and provide supervision, companionship and kind words of encouragement.
