Tanzania Porters Organization is non-profit, no-governmental Organization founded in 2013 and officially registered under the Societies Act (CAP. 337, Re.202) with the registration number SA 18752 to operate in Tanzania Mainland within Kilimanjaro and Arusha Regions.  The Organization is currently working with Porters climbing Mt. Meru and Kilimanjaro and has total number of 16,000 members. The organization was founded after realizing that, most of companies were not adhering to the fair treatment of porters and their working conditions were not humane. The organization is working to promote the welfare and rights of porters climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro and Meru and ensure fair payments and working condition

Objectives

The objectives of the Tanzania Porters Organization are:

1. To provide Porters with skills and knowledge on Labor rights and safeguarding social and economic well-being of porters working on Mt. Kilimanjaro and Meru treks in Tanzania.
2. To provide clients with all necessary information in supporting of Porters when booking a tour, trek or Safari.
3. To provide Linkage and networking between Porters, Government Authorities and Companies working in Tourism Industry in Tanzania for the purpose of establishing fair working conditions.
4. To ensure the provision of proper equipments for trekking, fare payments, Food, accommodation and medical care for porters.
5. To provide Porters with environmental conservation skills, first Aid training and tourism training to ensure quality services and sustainability of ecosystem.
6. To promote tourism industry by collaborating with other stakeholders by ensuring rights, access, and proper information to both clients and porters on procedures and guidelines on fair payments and quality services to all parties concerned
