| WOFATA was officially registered by the Government of Tanzania, under the Ministery of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, on November 20th 2002. Women living with HIV/AIDS decided to form WOFATA with the aim of helping those affected by the illness. The formation of WOFATA was a response to the President of the Republic of Tanzania, Mr Benjamin Mkapa's call for all Tanzanians to fight the spread of HIV/AIDS in the country.
