TEKLA KAGERA PROFILE

TEKLA KAGERA is the registered Organization for People living  with disabilities especially children  and women with disabilities in Tanzania. It is registered under the Ministry of Social Development, Gender and Children. Its registration number is 05NGO/00005316

TEKLA has no acronym, it is a name of a woman who voluntarily served the children with disabilities in
Dar es Salaam, and it was so suggested to name the organization TEKLA for dedication of honor.

The organization started in 2001 as pilot project called Tekla project which aimed at creating a nationwide model in order to strengthen the situation of girls with disabilities, in respect to their position in society, educational needs and social status in four district Councils that is Bukoba Municipality, Bukoba District Council, Muleba and Missenyi

STATEMENT OF FAITH

We believe that disability is not inability.
We are of the strong opinion that disabled children, girls and women were born in the image of God. They deserve physical and spiritual supports from the society without discrimination, segregation, and stigma so that they can live a good and independent life.
