JEAN media was Established in 1998, by a well-known Radio broadcaster Mrs Sango Kipozi. In the year 2000 JEAN media began the process of applying for a community Radio registration which was originally meant to be based in Mkuranga district in the coastal region. We chose Mkuranga because we had already done a lot of projects there and felt that we understood their day-to-day issues very well. However, because of reasons beyond our control our request was not granted. Instead we were given the challenge to establish our community Radio In Mtwara in the Southern part of Tanzania. After 10 years of hard work and persistence we will now finally go on air on our first Radio Transmitting test this month. This will make MRS SANGO KIPOZI the very first woman in Tanzania to own a Community Radio Station(Stay tuned to see pictures of our construction site and the complete set up of our studio). Initially after attending the International workshops on the development and support for community and rural Radio in Africa in 1994/1996, Sango Kipozi as a freelance reporter for World Radio, then came up with a proposal to establish a Rural Community Radio in Dodoma the Capital of Tanzania. After recommendation by Tanzania Broadcasting commission,the now TCRA the proposal which wassent by Sango to the World bank produced no results. The reason being, no self communication with a donor agency was easy at that time. Had these efforts been successful, Sango would have been the 1st Person to have started the first Community Radio in the Country.
