The concern of the trade union is to educate, defend, organise and promote the interests of workers and members at workplace. TASU has members along Indian Ocean , inland waters along Lakes Victoria, Tanganyika and Nyasa.

TASU as a trade union whose role is to promote, defend and protect the well being of workers has been deeply involved in the struggle of fighting HIV / AIDS for our members. We have been conducting seminars and workshops to branch executives, youth coorditors and women committees from workplaces/ships, ferry boats where our members are employed onboard.

We do all activities in collaboration with TUCTA education department through various projects and we seek to promote dialogue about men`s roles and increase gender equity and in doing so, reduce the vulnerability of men, women and children to HIV/AIDS and other adverse reproductive health outcomes. The project  inspires  men to become partners and leaders in combating some of the most serious reproductive health challenges  of HIV /AIDS, gender based violence maternal mortality and unintended pregnancy in the family and this we did in collaboration with Champion projects.

Man As Partners(MAP)  approach is very essential in building capacity to trainers, peer educators in promoting HIV workplace programmes, gender and reproductive health in the world of work.

In our programmes we facilitate gender and power, attitudes and gender, men and health, understanding sexulity, HIV,STI AIDS basics and myths, Risk perception , Alcohol-drug Abuse, Multiple Sexual Partners, Cross Generational Sex, Transactional Preventions Interventions Male circumsion, universal precautions and infection control within the workplace.

Others are Men`s role in Health Promotion, Family and Community Outreach as part of an HIV/AIDS Workplace Policy and Tripartite Code of Conduct.
