NEED FOR MAASAI WOMEN EMPOWERMENT

Maasai community is one of the pastoral communities living in Kiteto district. Women in the group are marginalised, discriminated and illterate, they are 85-90% the cares of the families and they are livestocks though they don't have right in ownerships of the family properties, they are exclude in decission making and not give priorties in education.

In recent years the community is trying to adapt changes, they are opting to cultivation, starting small bussines and a big number of young boys are running to towns for guards poor paid work. Women are selling tobacco and other arts work, they are opting on this shame because it is the only kind of a bussines they can run. Selling of milk is another bussines they are doing but they don' have reliable customers pending to the low price they are being given of Tshs.200 to 600 per liter of milk. SWEAT is training to fundraise for a sum of USD25,000, for a one year project to support 10 Maasai groups in 5 village in Kiteto district. The aim of this project is to support each group with 1 unit of a mannual milk cream separator, by using these machine the groups will add value to their milk and generate reliable income through selling cream. Also the funding will be used to train them in income generating activities management.
