BOUT: PWANI-DPA

 

1.0. PWANI – DPA OVERVIEW

 

1.1 Pwani Development Promotion Agency (Pwani-DPA) is a non- governmental organization established in July 2007 and registered on 22 October 2009 with its main goal of  promotion of developmental activities for the majority rural and urban Tanzanians, and in particular regard, to the underprivileged community of Pwani Region.


1.2. VISION:

PWANI- DPA. Envisions a healthy, well educated, prosperous and dignified Tanzanian society free from absolute poverty, environmental degradation and HIV/AIDS infections, care and support of the infected and affected, improved education, health services, economic status and friendly environment.

 

1.3. MISSION:

To provide strategic contribution towards support and empowerment of the needy, underprivileged and vulnerable segments of the Tanzanian population such as Pwani region, in addressing the socio-economic [health, education and environmental] challenges and needs facing them.

 

1.4. GOAL:

To support and empower the needy, underprivileged and vulnerable communities to address and mitigate the socio-economic, health, education and environmental problems afflicting them in order to improve their conditions of living.

 

1.5. OBJECTIVES:

The above Mission and Goal are translated into the following 14 main objectives:

 

  1.  Address HIV/AIDS/STDs issues through information, Education and

Communication for behavior change development and empower the most vulnerable groups particularly women, youths the down- trodden and those infected and affected by HIV/AIDS and STDs in order to take appropriate steps to protect themselves and others from infection or for those already sero-converted to avoid repeated exposure;

  1.  Provide information, education and counseling services on gender, sexual and

reproductive health to the youth, women and the community in general;

 

  1.  Promote livelihood and life management skills among the community, and youths

and women in particular, through plausible facilitation techniques such as Stepping Stones, REFLECT and Life Skills;

 

  1.  Promote respect of human rights of people living with HIV/AIDS;

 

  1.  Solicit community support in addressing and advocating for children/youth and

women’s rights;

 

  1.  Enhance and facilitate poverty eradication strategies to the underprivileged and

the down trodden;

 

  1.  Enhance and develop a closer relationship between all agencies involved in

HIV/AIDS prevention, impact mitigation, counseling, poverty alleviation, environmental conservation through creation of income Generating Activities and environmental preservation programmes;

 

  1.  Enhance, support and promote innovative education and communication

techniques such as Stepping Stones, REFLECT and Life Skills education through participatory research on HIV/AIDS, STIs, environmental conservation and poverty alleviation for increased awareness and development;

 

  1.  Initiate, enhance, promote facilitate and support the empowerment of the

Underprivileged and down-trodden through increased social, economic and educational advancement in order to enable them attain better quality life;

 

  1.   Support national, regional and international efforts in the struggle against the

spread of HIV/AIDS, environmental degradation and poverty;

 

  1.  Enhance and promote poor households in accessing socio-economic facilities

such as education, health and water;

 

  1.   Establishing formal & informal education institutions for quality education,

particularly for those who miss it;

 

  1.    Establish a “Revolving Fund” that will provide very minimal interest loans to

youth and women groups to help them start and run income generating projects such as poultry keeping, diary cattle keeping, petty business, gardening, handcrafts, etc;

 

  1.  Promote programmes in the areas of gender, development, youth and women
