INAUGURATION OF CHILDREN&YOUTH BASKETBALL TRAINING CENTRE. Planet Social Development (PSD) in collaboration with Mwanza Regional Basketball Association (MRBA) through its Children, Youth and School Development Commission and Ilemela Municipal Council (Culture, Sports and Games Department) inaugurate Basketball training Centre on Saturday of 16th July 2016. Up to now, we have more than 150 young Boys and Girls who attend basketball training on every Monday to Friday from 4:00 pm, and Saturday from 8:00 pm per week, who are coming from different primary and secondary schools in Mwanza City (Ilemela&Nyamagana Districts) The opening ceremony was accompanied with school basketball bonanza and street All Star Games at. Kiloleli Basketball Training Court The Guest of Honor was Deputy Minister of Land, House and Settlement Development, Honorable Angeline Mabula (MP) with other important guests FIBA Africa Technical/Refaree Commissioner, Mr. Zulfikar Karim, City and Municipal Council Officers, teachers/coaches, parents and other invited people from different organization/company. The event was comprise more than 300 people This training is a part of the Lake Zone Children & Youth Basketball Program which has objective of discovering, developing and promoting youth basketball talents among the young generation in Primary and Secondary school as well astheir education and health matters, so as they would emerge as future basketball stars and hence put Tanzania in the African Basketball map. Program supervised by Youth Program Coordinator, Coach KizitoSoshoBahati with assistance from Coach Ally Abdalah and Coach HamisKaaphy. But also now we have assistance coaches from Sports Charity Mwanza to our basketball Court as Mwanza Eagles Basketball club.

To strengthen the cooperation in our organization (Mambo Basketball & Planet Social Development (PSD) so as to implement the intended goals as US Sports Program Alumni after our training journey in America in 2009 which was financed by America Embassy – Tanzania.

ACHIEVEMENTS:

1:   Participants were empowered and learned the importance of education   in order to be successful in sports as well as goals setting in everyday   life activities.

2:  Participants learned basics skills such us shooting, dribbling, passing,   defense stance, marking a player with/without the ball and positioning   during a basketball game.

3:  Mwanza basketball Coaches and model players learned how to conduct   a basketball camp. As the result Mambo basketball gave away 25   basketballs used in the camp to PSD as the primary tools to be able to   conduct basketball camps on weekends following this camp.

4:   The camp was advertised and the media played a big part in informing   Tanzanian  the progress and achievements. Participants and Coaches   were interviewed too.

5:  PSD and Mambo Basketball worked together as the US SPORTS   PROGRAM alumni, to conduct another camp in June/July 2012.

6:  We are currently working on organizing a two week Coaches/ PE   teachers training in coaching deferent disciplines Basketball,   volleyball , handball , netball and Swimming.

CHALLENGES:

2.   Young players start playing basketball at 15/16 which is very late.

3.  Lack of standard basketball courts in Mwanza. Available courts locations   doesn’t    support easy movements of players to regularly attend training   after school.

4.  Size six and seven basketballs are not available in Mwanza.

5.  Basketball coaches education is needed. Few coaches have attended coaches training.

6.  Lack of sponsorship to facilitate long term basketball development programs.
