INTRODUCTION OF POSA
POSA is a non-governmental organization deals with people who are living with HIV/AIDS. We support HIV/AIDS infected people, orphans and children from poor families. The organization was established on the 14th of September 2005 with twenty members, four men and sixteen women.
We have established day care orphanage services to respond to the huge number of orphans in the USA River Area. The day care orphanage supports children from poor families who have lost their parents, which in turn supports families in the area that have succumbed to the illness. We offer basic needs such as education by taking children to private English medium schools, food supplies, clothes and health services. The organization also helps people infected with HIV/AIDS through emotional support, educational services and supplies.
POSA OBJECTIVES
- To fight against poverty, diseases and ignorance.
- To host HIV/AIDS seminars to reduce stigmatism and health service provision to the community.
- To provide education to the orphans in the area.
POSA ACTIVITIES
Our major activity is to support HIV/AIDS infected people by providing them with basic knowledge regarding HIV/AIDS. The seminars are conducted in schools, hospitals, meetings and other organizations. The seminars and other services are given free.
Another activity includes vegetable growing for members’ consumption and selling in order to provide money to those in need.
The selling of different food supplies and products such as cooking oil and sadney to final consumers is an important project of POSA. The business is conducted in different markets. We own a mini-shop which sells animal feeds and other products. The shop is away from the office.
All the activities are performed by the organizational members.
We also provide kindergarten education to orphans and those children living in difficult conditions. Several of these students are living with HIV.
POSA RESPONSIBILITIES AND OBJECTIVES TO ITS MEMBERS
Ø To support members in self-reliance activities in order to stimulate efficiency and profitable production for the group.
Ø To educate the community about HIV/AIDS and to provide advice to the infected people.
Ø To cooperate with other anti-HIV/AIDS groups such as TANOPHA (TANZANIA NETWORK OF PEOPLE LIVING WITH HIV/AIDS), WAMATA etc.
PROBLEMS FACING POSA MEMBERS
HEALTH-Inadequate health services and diet to infected people.
ECONOMIC-Lack or inadequate capital hinders productive activities to the infected people.
RIGHTS-The infected people are denied their productive rights in the community by being stigmatized.
NEGLIGENCE-Stigmatizing reduces cooperation amongst infected people and rest of the community in productive activities.
POSA ORPHANAGE DAY CARE CENTRE
The centre was established on 15th March 2010 with forty children, including twenty one boys and nineteen girls. Amongst them three children are infected with HIV/AIDS, two boys and one girl. The children are between the ages of 3 and 6 years.
Sessions begin from 8:00 Am to 12:00 Noon. Our school has only one teacher and one cook who are paid by the organization.
Our school is made up of timbers and roofed by the nylon and long grasses; also the organization pays for the area.
OBJECTIVES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF POSA TO ORPHANS, CHILDREN LIVING IN DIFFICULT CONDITIONS AND CHILDREN LIVING POSITIVE
To make a good foundation to the children in education to help them fighting against poverty for their future.
Searching for sponsorship for the children who are in the age of joining standard one in private schools which provide quality education.
PROBLEMS FACING CHILDREN IN OUR CENTRE
v Shortage of food stuffs for children, this problem happens often.
v Lack of enough teaching facilities such as books and other necessary teaching supplies.
v Low capital invested by the organization hinders the employment for permanent teachers, cook and buying teaching supplies.
OUR REQUEST TO SPONSORS AND OTHER ORGANISATIONS
POSA has fourteen children, ten boys and four girls who are expected to join primary schools specifically private English medium schools which always provide quality education to students.
Therefore POSA asks aid from different organizations, sponsors and volunteers to support the children by paying their school fees and other expenses.
Lack of enough money hinders the children to get their basic needs such as food, school uniforms, health care and school stationeries.
The organization has a building with three rooms, two office rooms and one classroom. There is a need for one more class to manage the number of children regarding their educational levels, but shortage of fund is an obstacle.
There is lack of enough office equipments such as computers for record keeping, furnitures and teaching aids.
Also we share the building with other business men who always obstruct teaching sessions. We want to own our building to have ample time to run the activities comfortably but there is no fund.
THE PROGRAMME FOR HELPING ORPHANS, CHILDREN LIVING IN DIFFICULT CONDITIONS AND THOSE LIVING HIV/AIDS POSITIVE IN PRIMARY SCHOOLS
This programme for helping children in primary schools was established on 10th August 2007.The programme has twelve children that mean two boys and ten girls, amongst them two are living HIV/AIDS positive that mean one boy and one girl, five orphans all girls, and others living in difficult conditions.
The programme offers basic needs to children living in difficult conditions, orphans who lost their parents because of HIV/AIDS and children living HIV/AIDS positive.
