PEMBA INVESTMENT AND YOUTH DEVELOPMENT ORGANIZATION (PIYDO)
SHORT HISTORY:
A number of Zanzibar Youths Living in Pemba Island sat down in various meetings and came out in conclusion of forming the Organization. This came out after thorough conversation, upon seeing how the Youths in Pemba Island are scattered, un-employed, use drugs, engage themselves in theft and most of them stay in groups for the whole day long in what commonly known as “barazas, or Vijiwe” for the purpose of keeping them together in groups to employ themselves and have the idea of what to do and for what purpose this last meeting agreed to form this Organization, hence, the birth of Pemba Investment and Youth Development Organization (PIYDO). After the completion of Constitution and all other procedures, the Organization was registered and on 6th June 2002, Registration number 192 was offered. The founder members were 25. Now the Organization is having 51 members amongst them 52% are females.
GEOGRAPHICAL
Pemba is small Island in Indian Ocean just South of Equator situated about 30km off the mainland coast. Pemba is about 870sq km. According to 1988 population census, Pemba Island has about 270,000 residents with the growth rate of 3% per annum. Sex ratio is typical that of developing nation where females are the majority. Birth control activities are still not very well applied especially in refused. Pemba is tropical in nature experiencing warm temperatures almost the year round. February is the hottest month where Temperatures rises to 390C while in August temperature falls as low as 210C March through June experiences heavy rains and lesser rains during October – November.
One can get to Pemba by air through Unguja or chartered flight from Dar es Salaam, Mombasa, Nairobi, and Tanga etc. Or Sea ferries speedboats from Dar es Salaam through Unguja to Pemba, or by ship from Unguja to Pemba.
WHAT IS PIYDO?
The Pemba investment and Youth Development Organization is a non-profitable Organization formed deliberately / Voluntary by Zanzibaries living in Pemba Island and is independent from any political actives, Parties, Religions, Ethnic, Gender, or any other mischief groups like terrorists which are dangerous to innocent people, human life, environment, and the world as a whole. This Organizations Provides Charitable and humanitarian services to all Youth.
Pemba Investment and Youth Developmental Organization PIYDO intended to boost the Development of this Island particularly Youth . It is a non –Profitable does not engage in racial, gender,
Attitude, political, ethnic, disability and or infected by HIV / AIDS, i.e.
PIYDO is completely free from any kind of Discrimination.
