Hussein Matora -- President

Hussein Matora began playing basketball at the age of 14. In 2009 he was sponsored by the US Embassy to travel to the United States for coaching training.  While in the US, Hussein witnessed first hand the positive effects structured sports had on the youth in the United States.  Upon returning to his home in Mkoani-Pemba, Hussein began unofficially coaching the youth in Mkoani's newly built basketball court.  However, with limited resources he saw the need for creating an official club for both establishing credibility and securing support from home and abroad.

Moh'd "Gabsi" Salim Khamis -- Executive Secretary

Moh'd began playing basketball over ten years ago after being taught by a Philipino living on Pemba.  He has since helped to build the Mkoani veteran team.  While studying at the State University of Zanzibar to become a teacher, Moh'd was captain of the university's basketball team.  Moh'd is a Swahili teacher at the local secondary school, and he has taken his skill set from the classroom and applied it to the basketball court.

J. Michael Tritchler -- Treasurer

Mike first arrived in Pemba in 2006 as a physics and computer teacher at the local secondary school in Mkoani.  While teaching at the school he befriended both Hussein and Moh'd while playing basketball in the evenings together.  In 2009, Mike secured funding from friends and family back in the United States to build a basketball court in the centre of Mkoani.  Since completing the court in early 2010, the community has come together to provide a structured environment for promoting basketball.
