Legacy Foundation was established in 1999 and works in 45 countries worldwide. Its directors have been working in Tanzania with various appropriate technology and rural development projects since 1974.   The focus on biomass briquettes began  in 2007, with a training of trainers project in Lushoto.   Recently Legacy Foundation partnered with TROSS  (Tropical Solar Systems)  in Arusha Tanzania to support and more consistent response to the requests for training and technical support in briquette making in the country.   Today TROSS and Legacy Foundation are working with a number of briquette producers throughout Tanzania trying to stop the massive increase in the use of charcoal for fuel.   All of that charcoal production is destroying the environment and production and use of  biomass briquettes can help to stop that destruction.   There are now 10 active briquette producing groups in the Tanzania network of briquetters.
