Community information delivery

One of the serious weaknesses of information and Non-Formal Education in local areas in Tanzania is that it is adhoc and one shot affair. Usually education and information sharing programs are conducted for very short periods by the government or NGOs and then they disappear after the program. Similar is the case with environmental education and Natural resources Management issues. Due to the lack of permanent institutes and programmes at the village level, Environmental and natural resources as well as Non-Formal Education program could not provide functional education based on needs and problems of villagers.

We often say that the Information program should be need based of the people and it should help the villagers to identify their real problems and help them to solve the problems through learning new knowledge and skills related to environment, Natural Resources, Community development, cleanliness, nutrition, family planning, environmental disasters etc. Similarly the functional information program should help the villagers to learn new skills and technology to improve their profession and their earning capacities.

Therefore, the concept of a Community Resource Center (CRC) came about exactly to solve those problems. Actually CRC is a multipurpose source of information of the people, by the people, and for the people to promote learning new knowledge, skills and behaviors to improve people's quality of life and living standard.

In insuring information and education on Environmental Conservation, Marine Resources management as well as Community Development issues are effectively delivered to the community, KIMWAM uses different ways to inusure the community is bein informed.

KIMWAM through partnership from Seacology has facilitated construction of Community Rsources Centre buit in Mtandi Village found in Msimbati area. The builting is expected to be usefully for community to get different informations including climate change issues, fishing and its legal as well as policy matters guiding the sector.  The centre will gather group activities, social support, public information, and other purposes.
