Jean media has handed over 100 Radios to member of the community in Mtwara, courtesy of Unesco. The radios were given to these people for free  in order to increase listners especially the Targeted group of people which are the women in the rural areas of Mtwara. One woman Remarked that she had never owned her own Radio her entire life!. Another women remarked that she hopes that Radio Mtwara will create different Radio Programs that will be the source of information for women rather then the usual programs they have to listen to on other Radio stations that deal more on youth programs and so on .

One of the Problems in communities of Tanzania is the women do not have a chance to listen to radio programs that may be extremely educational to them because small radios are usually owned by the Husband, the Father or the Brother, so they end up having to listen to programs that are not very benificial to them. This initiative has aimed to change this about our communities by making Women owners of there own Radio so tht they may have access to information that will empower them and educate them more

During the giving out of these radios Jean media experience some difficulty in ensuring that the majority of the receivers are women. some Husbands insisted on taking Radio's on behalf of there wives. However we established firmly that we wanted most of the Radios to  be received by women themselves. The operation was successful and we are very thankful for everybody's apreciation and cooperation.

In order to strengthen the community Radio in Mtwara, JEAN media has appointed a well experienced new station Manager with quite a number of years of experience with Radio Mr. Phanuel Kunjumu. Along side the manager are young female journalists from Mtwara Region.

The activity in hand right now is involving community from both rural and urban Mtwara in Radio programs productions in a paticipatory manner. Trained community members will later be voluntary reporters for the radio about community issues. However we are faced with a tough situation of the running cost of the station. Funds are being alloctated to make things easier

The Michweni Community centre had a grand opening where the guest of honour was Honourable AMANI ABEID KARUME. In january 2010

The Pemba training was very productive. Participants from different Community Radios attended, including Radios that are already active and those that are still in preparation to go on air. Participants got the chance to meet members of the community to discuss changes that were bought by Micheweni Communty Radio. Michweni communty radio was our main host in Pemba. All meeting where conducted in the Micheweni community Centre Facility. Jean Media was extremely impressed by the participation of the government of Zanzibar in Building this Community Centre for Micheweni. The Foundation stone was laid by Honourable Shamsi. V. Nahodha, Cheif Minister of Zanzibar. This is something that is enviable to the Other Community Radios. We hope that we recieve the same support between our communities and the Government

The guest of honour at the Pemba, Micheweni Training Workshop was Ali Juma Shamhuna Deputy Chief Minister. Participants felt deeply honoured. He gave a wonderful and Cheerful speech that inspired us all!

We at Mtwara Community Radio Thank Everyone at Micheweni for Their Hospitality and warmness during our Training and we hope to Collaborate with them in the future.

Special Thanks to Khatib Mjaja for the special tour around Michwenithe Pemba Beaches and Wete.
