From the year 1990s pastoralist were in a hard time of losing their land in a high speed due to the establishment of big farming in Simanjiro areas this was a big challenge to this community as their lives depending with the cows and they need a big areas for pastures so to meet this challenges they organized themselves and with the assistances of Mr. Martin Kariongi Ole Sanago a member of their community and started their NGO called Orkonerei pastoralist survival programmes so that they can talk as one voices but this wasn’t enough to relieve their problem because there were still a lot of grabbers of the land in several part of maasai land

Orkonerei Pastoralists Community Broadcasting was conceived and established since September 1993 during the desertification convention of the United Nations. During that period possibilities were being identified on how to empower local Pastoral communities through Community based information and communication structures in order for them to participate effectively and decidedly on environmental conservation as well as land tenure systems and ownership, in order to contribute towards reducing deserts formation attributing factors as well as poverty facilitating and contributing factors.
