The Civil Society Organizations’ Annual Forum held from 21st to 23rd November 2011 at Ubungo Plaza in Dar es Salaam whereby more than 350 representatives from CSOs countrywide attended.  The annual forum prepared and hosted by THE FOUNDATION FOR CIVIL SOCIETY.


Annual Forum of CSOs aim to discuss various national issues and to evaluate the trend and performance of the civil society sector in Tanzania since independence. The theme for this year's forum is “50 Years of Independence: The Role of CSOs in Building the Nation”. 

During the Annual Forum, the event of CSOs Excellence Award took place on 23rd November, which MVIWAMO had second chance in CSOs Excellence award, as outstanding contribution Award. 

 


MVIWAMO through TAP/ACT participated in a workshop on Cereals export bans. The workshop address constrains to trade in Tanzania with emphasis on Cereal export bans and impact of trade barriers on small scale farmers in Tanzania.

The overall goal of the project

 To improve small scale famers’ livelihoods in Monduli and Longido districts by improving accountability, good governance and strengthening lobby and advocancy skills in agricultural development interventions.

One of the MVIWAMO interventions is to facilitate training on food/grains production and storage by motivating farmers to construct simple and affordable granaries. This is to improve income and food security for small scale farmers.

PROFILE OF MVIWAMO

MVIWATA in Monduli and Longido

Is a network of small-scale farmer group networks in Monduli and Longido Districts (Mtandao wa Vikundi vya Wakulima wa Monduli na Longido). The formation of “MVIWATA in Monduli and Longido” was stimulated by the National Farmer’s Network, in a bid to establish a middle network in the Monduli area. “MVIWATA in Monduli and Longido” was registered as a middle network of MVIWATA (national Farmer’s network) in March 2004 as an NGO under Societies Ordinance of 1954. “MVIWATA in Monduli and Longido” was registered under the name “MVIWAMO”, meaning “MVIWATA in Monduli and Longido”.  

 

Thematic  areas:

  1. Group strengthening: Organizing farmers in groups and networks and training them in leadership capacity.

 2.     Capacity building: Build technical Capacity of farmers. Providing trainings in agriculture and livestock management and organizing exchange visit of farmers. Farmer groups have also been mobilized in circles and receive training in micro-finance and micro-enterprises. 

 

3.    Advocacy: Lobbying and advocacy on issues of interest to farmers, for example resource conflict issues and government policies. Building capacity of farmers to advocate for their issues.

4.    OD/ID of “MVIWATA in Monduli and Longido”: Focus is to build capacity of institutions to deliver services, and training leadership committees to lead their organizations. Training in Fundraising.

5. Linking & Networking:  Linking with institutions and building relationships that add value to the organization
