MEMBERS GENERAL MEETING ENDORSES THE BUYUNI DECLARATIONS.

 

The Umoja wa Kusaidiana Ukonga(KUWAMA)  held its General meeting on Sunday 29th June 2014 at its Plot No 158 in Buyuni, Chanika, Ilala District Dar-es Salaam.

The meeting was the first one to be held at the Society’s premises since the acquisition of the land in 2006.

To commemorate the occasion, the meeting was preceded by the planting of a tree called Trichillia Emetica (Mkungwina) by a senior most past Chairman of KUWAMA Mr. Vedasto R. Ishengoma. The meeting passed the following six declarations known as “Buyuni Declarations”.

  • Efforts shall be made to acquire a total of not less than 537 acres of land in Tanzania preferably within Rufiji District. Each member shall hold not less than three acres for common agricultural activities. The balance of the land shall be held by the society and used for the common social economic activities.
  • Every member shall contribute a monthly fee itself not being less than Tz. Shs 5,000/= to an established Capital Investment Fund from which all costs of acquiring and developing the land shall be met.
  • The home of the Society be at its Plot No 158 Buyuni. The plot shall be developed in two phases. Phase one shall be for a short term outdoor activities capable of generating proceeds which shall be used to develop a long term project. A social hall with its infrastructures and a cultural centre will be key development issue.
  • A society account in the Ukonga Community SACCOS be opened and maintained. The Ukonga Community SACCOS was established by society members.
  • A Website to facilitate communication to the outside world be opened at the Envaya domain.
  • A comprehensive plan to support the needy people, orphans, widows , street children living in hardship conditions which was in place be improved so that it becomes transformational in nature. Efforts should be made to ensure that the support given by the society enables them to earn sustainable means of living other than continuously depending on the society.
