Governance and Accountability
This project ‘’ The sustainable Pangani River Basin water supply and resources management entails to improve community access to adequate clean and safe drinking water by increasing the awareness of 56 local and central Government and development partners on the water sector reform progress by January 2010.
Empower the awareness of 80,150,102 and 50 wards development committee members, family households, Community water users associations and training of trainers TOTs, from the four wards of Muheza District, Magoroto, Majengo, Lusanga and Ngomeni respectively on water Supply and Resources Management, health and sanitation and financial book keeping, with major focus on the water source tree protection and planting around the water source

A total of 52 Community leaders, and district authorities comprising of 21 and 31 males and females Respectively were engaged and empowered on one day Water sector Reform process and development from Lusanga, Majengo, Ngomeni and Magoroto wards of Muheza District by May 2011
Increased number of trained Training of Trainers ( TOTs) on water Resources and financial management Management from 0-53 in Comprising of 19 and 34 Male and females respectively from Lusanga, Magoroto, Ngomeni and Majengo wards of Muheza district by the end June 2011.
A total of 500 Community members Consisting of 158 males 341 females were reached through TOTs Training outreaches in Lusanga, Majengo, Ngomeni and Magoroto Wards of Muheza district by June 2011
Increased numbers of Trees Planted along the Water Source from the last Quarters 11,254 to 12,913 in the Quarter 4 making a total 24,167 in Magoroto and Lusanga Wards of Muheza

Increased community participatory involvement in the water resources management and reached a total of 67 consisting of 25 males and 42 females and community members from Lusanga, majengo, Magoroto and Ngomeni of Muheza District by June 2011

A total of 17, Ventilated improved pit latrines were constructed but missing a target of 60, that was planned for by the end of the project in Lusanga, Ngomeni, Majengo and Magoroto Wards Of Muheza district by the end of June 2011

A total of fifty Six participants were invited but only fifty two attended the meeting on the water sector reform forum and meeting
The target of 30,250 trees to be planted at the water source, could not be reached due to the fact That, JUHUDI NGO had run out of tree seedlings and thus could not access the seedlings due to the dry spell that was experienced in last Quarter of the year 2010.
The challenges in the construction of the Ventilated improved Pit (VIP) latrines lies with the technical and financial capabilities of the local community, there was no readily available expertise in the slabs construction, despite the local Government promising to provide its expertise in the constructions and instructional purposes
The target of 30,250 trees to be planted at the water source, could not be reached due to the fact That, JUHUDI NGO had run out of tree seedlings and thus could not access the seedlings due to the dry spell that was experienced in last Quarter of the year 2010.

There is an increased Demands of the tree seedlings, and the community are now seriously committed to planting of trees in their various fields, residential areas, further more the Magoroto Wards Executive office has established Community Based Environmental organization That involve the youths in Tree planting activities, and in the management of Water Resources by June 2011.
There is an increased scaling up of community health and sanitation , more efforts are being made to reduce any kind of Diseases outbreak, use of water treatment methods and other development strategies have helped reduce the problems by he end of June 2011.
The constructions of the improved pit latrines continues and will be capitalized upon, except for the Concrete slabs that need a lot of Technical and financial resources to establish,the community are now willing to set up VIP latrines structures in place

The Muheza District forest department refusal to cooperate in the project implementation after a corrupt deal between the local Government and individual business men allowing for the cutting down of Mvule trees ( the preserved Hard trees species) around the water source which was aired by the ITV and the TBC and which soon immediately brought the Ministry Department to visit the was area and which over 12 forest department officials involved were forced out of their Jobs was really heart shaking | We tried to address the issue as a national Threat , that needs the cooperation of all the stakeholders and especially major Stakeholders like the Forest Department, and we will continue empowering them on the need for a role playing in the fight against the mismanagement of the water resources |
The increasing mass use of Fire wood for energy purposes by the local Community hinders proper protection and management of the Water resources’ Management. | We introduced and will continue empowering the community on the use for locally made improved fire wood cooking stoves that reduces the mass cutting of trees For domestic energy |
The Tree and Forest Burning is a common activity in these areas, and may be of a high magnitude and affect the general forest protection mechanisms, affects several water sources | The Organization empowered the local community and workshop participants on the need to have a more and enhanced community based efforts that take legal action on the unnecessary Burning Of Trees and forests |
