Happy the streat girl from Bukoba-TZ
She is an expert in hunting thrown away food from the garbage bins, she actually
survives eating from garbage. Her mother is H.I.V positive and is always sick.
There is very little food left after her mother and brother have eaten.
Monday Wednesday and Friday are easier because bananas and other foods are brought from
villages to be sent to Mwanza by Victoria boat and she can collect enough damaged or
thrown away raw bananas.
She saw the IZAAS Madresa children going home after madresa hours; she started
crying as she realized that “her childhood is not normal.
She missed going to school like normal children.
The next day she came to IZAAS office, smelling, terribly of garbage and begged“please help me to go to school”. She had not eaten so she was sent to Rose Café for rice and meet, after that She was asked to wash herself and come back next day.
Happy came to IZAAS again this time with her friend Diana with their worn and smelly cloths
IZAAS called Hanna and Catherina our volunteers from Germany, they took Happy and Diana
to the market to buy them some new clothes, they helped to wash their clothes before they
give to them.
It was Friday, Mama Rukia cooked Matoke for IZAAS children. Mwalim Mubaarak invited
Hanna and Catherina to eat with IZAAS children, our volunteers came with Happy and Diana,
they found IZAAS children still praying, so Hanna went to help mama Rukia to arrange fruits
for children. Mubaarak we are coming with Happy and Diana is that okay?
After the food was served and all fed, IZAAS organized with Faraji together with our
volunteers to visit Happy’s home. HAPPY, She lives at Rwamishenye with beautiful views of the town and her home has two room houses which they pay monthly rent of tsh 5,000/=
They were shocked, upset and very disturbed, Hanna was touched and finally she cried. The Volunteer’s report is sent separately. After escorting the volunteers, Happy and her mother went back home, IZAAS agreed to organize with Sister Adventina of Tumaini center to take Happy and her friend Diana to her Center for education Inshallah.
