1. ESTABLISHMENT OF BICO FM RADIO

The Biharamulo FM radio feasibility is for development project to examine cost and effectiveness of radio communications in improving democracy, human right, agricultural productivity, Health and disease control, food security and development challenges for Bihalamulo communities in Kagera region-Tanzania. The project is taking place phase to phase in 15 vilages in Bihalamulo named Bihalamulo town, Bisibo, Kabindi, Nyamahanga, Kalenge, Kaniha, Lusahuga, Nemba, Nyabusozi, Nyakahura, Nyamahanga, Nyamigogo, Nyantakara, Nyarubungo and Runazi. It is hoped that the results from the research will lead to more support for broadcasters to produce interactive and participatory farmer-focused programming.

Prior to implementing feasibility study of Biharamulo FM Radio, a preliminary study on the economics of radio was made in order to determine the costs involved in developing and sustaining community radio broadcasting in Bihalamulo. One of the objectives of the study was to identify the levels of investment required for radio and related ICTs to provide sustainable and effective project that contribute development to small holder farmer’s community. The aim of the study also intended to help and ensure that BIHARAMULO Community radio explores and develops radio-based communication strategies for farmers and sustainable levels of public or donors Investment.

Methodology

Our methodology is systematic and organized effort to investigate a specific problem that needs a solution. This process of investigation involves a series of well thought out activities of gathering, recording, analyzing and interpreting the data with the purpose of finding answer to problem.
