Beyond Education Development Initiatives (BEDI) is a non- governmental organization [NGO] which is a non-profit, non-political and non-religious organization. It deals with Development of people youth in particular, through active participatory training covering development, Legal aid, social, political, and economic issues to enhance youth and vulnerable people through active participation in developing themselves, their society, their country and the world at large.

BEDI was established to facilitate schools in Tanzania enter the honorable competition for knowledge and performance through improved teaching and learning environment, nutrition and health status, education policy, cross cutting issues of environmental gender equality, Good governance and HIV/AIDS.

BEDI carries out training, research, consultancy and advocacy at selected debatable public interests. Its membership largely includes education practitioners, lawyers, sociologists, and business experts who are committed to provide political and socio- economic education and legal aid to the society.

The objects for which BEYOND EDUCATION DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVE is established are:

  • To assist the improvement of the nutritional status of primary and secondary school children by making food available for them through community participation, thereby improving academic performance in schools.
  •  To support schools in the process of resource mobilization by stimulating and helping communities to solve their own problems through training to meet their own needs by utilizing local resources to the fullest, thereby reducing dependence on outside aid through realization of their own potential.
  •  To promote socio-economic activities and entrepreneurship in communities in order to increase the income of poor disadvantaged small farmers that will help them improve the level of nutrition, health, sanitation and literacy.
  •  To influence communities to develop technologies which utilize local skills, materials, and finance, serve to improve health and well being, create employment and maintain the Tanzania sense of self sufficiency and cultural identity.
  •  To conduct training to change rural/urban communities altitudes and practices in health and nutrition to improve well-being of their children.
  • To promote partnership and sense of collaboration amongst the target group toward establishment of poverty eradication initiatives on self-help basis.
  • To create awareness and advocacy to the local communities so that they can clearly understand the shared responsibilities between them and the government in development processes.
  • To contribute to socio-economic development of rural/urban communities of Tanzania by supporting self-development projects and programmes leading to sustainable development through participatory methodologies.
  • To promote human rights and legal assistance especially in education environment for making schools better place for children and youth to grow
  • To mainstream cross-cutting issues in the projects:  a) HIV/AIDS, Equality (Gender), Participation, Sustainable rural development and Environment degradation
  • Advocate and implement the national and international educational and other developmental initiatives.
